Just been looking at the weekend service on my TubeMap app, and notice for the Overground it says 'A special service will operate between Willesden Junction and Stratford via Queens Park' for Sunday. Looking at CartoMetro, would I be right in thinking this means they will be going between South Hampstead and Camden Road via the Primrose Hill junction? How unusual a move is that? And does it occur in (or out of!) passenger service very often?

I always thought it was a waste to replace satisfactory D stock, whilst money could have been better spent on replacing the crumbling 1972 Bakerloo Trains instead! They aren't satisfactory at all. They're 35 year old technology with small doors. Well I guess that's a matter of opinion! I for one will be sad when their time comes. There's something about the D-Stock I find rather comforting! Although the fact that they're my regular ride probably means I am biased somewhat...! I hope it's a long time before this thread starts to beef out!

I think I remember reading once that the Drivers had the ability to switch the announcments to 'Tourist' or 'Commuter' mode so that less information could be displayed during peak times. Is that correct? (Perhaps it was line specific, I think I was reading about the Pic or Jub at the time). Are the S-Stock fitted with any such feature?
Also, something else I'm curious about (although I think we've moved well away from the Metropolitan line at this point!); the 09 Stock on the Vic has the ability to make announcements during times of works or service disruption, eg. 'the Jubilee line is part suspended between Stanmore and Willlesdon Green' or 'there is no interchange access at Victoria to the Circle and District lines due to planned engineering works'. Are any other lines/stock capable of this as I've only noticed it on the Vic. Also, the Vic is the only line to announce which side the doors will open on. This feature doesn't seem to have been brought accross to the S-Stock. Why is this?

The side indicators now show the line name and destination. No real need for line colours. Not great for a quick identification and confirmation of what train is in the platform though. Whilst I would agree it's not essential, I still think it's a good thing to have. Particulary good for people unfamiliar with the system to feel they are on the right train because the colour of it matches that of the line on the map; I was once at monument station where an S7 Stock was working the District, and overheard someone on the platform say "No, we can't get this one, as it's yellow. We need to wait for a green one"!

What's going on at Gloucester Road? The Picc platform closure doesn't seem to have been planned and there's no mention of it on the status page. Replacement of the lifts. I've seen message boards at places like Hammersmith stating it. Not sure how recently or far advanced the planned closure was though.

Totally agree the line branding idea would have looked shocking! I believe the engineer accedited was Mark Orsman? In 1987 livery trials were conducted by corporate identity consultants 'Henrion, Ludlow & Schmidt' for LU. One of the trial liveries, rejected: (from "Underground Movement" by Paul Moss) ©Capital Transport, Paul Moss I actually quite like the individual line identities like that! But I can see how a consistant livery across the fleet is better for brand/company identity. I think having the poles and seats coloured by line identity was a nice compromise, so it's a great shame these are being lost with the introduction of S stock and the recent Northern Line refresh. I think they should make use of LED lighting or something to keep line identity. Nothing drastic, but just a subtle colouring for line distinction...!
