If the doors keep getting lodged with dirt it seems LU should maybe one day think of (shock horror) cleaning the tunnels?

Does it go any faster than the Central does? But we don't have the Central line, well, we do, just not ATO so it's rather like any other line. I want to see how fast the trains enter the stations! If I had to chose, i'd rather have a new Central line vid over the Victoria.

booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooring It would be cool to see how fast it goes between the stations, but maybe you're right...

I'd love the the Victoria line, a new Central line vid, and a Moscow Metro one too...

It's a shame they haven't included the Victoria line in it as well, ahh well.

Why has it not been designed as fully walk-through like the S Stock? Is it not possible on tube stock, if so, why?

(though on the LU map it used to be a darker blue double striped line rather than the double turquoise line it is now). I'm not so sure... The colour looks lighter and more greeny on DLR maps, but darker and bluer on Tube maps to me.

I heard that the new Victoria line trains sound like the Heathrow Express...
The Central line's trains sound similar to Class 319 Stock on the Thameslink line, were they built around the same time?

Is that it? Don't you mean 60mph? The trains go faster than 60kph without ATO as far as i've heard! And the Central line goes at 80kph!

What will the max service speed be on the Jubilee once it goes ATO?

David, I imagine line related grap handles will be phased out over the next 20 years! Why?

What is the plan? As far as i'm aware there is no plan to rebuild the station below ground, they're probably just designing a larger ticket hall to herd everyone like cattle before the platforms are clear.
I'm not for the rebuild myself, as it requires the demolition of local landmarks, I don't see why they can't do what they did in the 20s-40s or the 60s and build a new sub-surface ticket hall underneath the road junction. But that probably costs more.

Does anyone know if they're tearing off those horrible retro panels off the platforms wall?

Thanks for the answers you lot.
It makes sense to have two escalators going up and one going down, since passengers are more likely to walk down a down escalator than an up one, effectively doubling it's capacity... However, the escalators to Holborn on the Piccadilly are always 2 down 1 up!

I noticed that in a few stations at night, the central escalators are switched off, King's Cross is one that springs to mind. Is it to save energy and reduce wear and tear for when the escalators aren't needed?

Caught one again today, so nice to rest my bum on a bit of luxuary clean cloth that dosn't contain human fecies, dead rat, twelve types of food, human hair and alcohol (I believe I read in a newspaper once) I read that that was an urban legend!

These seats look bloody awful! The interior is white, yellow and black, what do they do, add bright blue multi coloured seats! I agree to an extent, the 95ts do look good WHEN clean. Trouble is they are not cleaned internally when they get to a termini. As I have said elsewhere, when on night turns, I get on at Finchley Central, the trains are filthy, mainly newspapers. Can't they just... Clean the seats? The old moquette was fine, the new one worked on the Jubilee because the interior is blueish anyway, and they repainted the armrests. With the new moquette on the northern line the arm rests have been left as black... Also, it seems Tubelines is using the same moquette for every single line! How boring!

I think that a sub-surface ticket hall was considered a few years ago after one of the plans had been thrown out. However, it wasn't seen as being as user-friendly or accessible as having it at street level. Why?

Does this new plan require the bulldozing of any buildings? I don't see why they don't do what they did in the 60s and 30s, rip up the road and create a larger sub-surface ticket hall.. Can you imagine the area around Camden Town being disrupted in this way? You'd probably have to close the main route from Mornington Crescent to Camden Lock & Kentish Town and the one way route from Gt Portland Street/London Zoo to Camden Road NR station too. Just imagine all the utilities through that 5 way junction. I recall the upheaval when Cable Camden as it was then were laying cable TV ducts through there and that was far less disruptive than building a new underground ticket hall would be. Perhaps a better idea would be to relocate the station or stations if the line is to be split! Yes I can imagine, they've done it in the past at the much more congested Oxford Circus by building a temporary steel "umbrella" for cars to pass over it, and that was in the sixties! And I know about that Stephenk, but all the proposals so far have been about rebuilding the surface building, I was offering an alternative, not giving my view on whether I thought it was a good idea or not!

I know. I thought that the other week when I rode from Canary to Greenwich - the voice doesn't sound very professional at all, like a housewife who has been grabbed off the street and forced to speak into a microphone! It is awful. As I've mentioned on the forum before, best DVA ever has to be the original Central Line ones, voiced by Janet Mayo. It was very good BTW that website with the recordings is fantastic! I agree with you about the Janet Mayo one, and the DLR, in fact I agree with all of this post!

To me, it seems drivers sometimes turn it down on the Victoria/Bakerloo lines.
I prefer the Victoria line one, as on the Central line it waits a bit after the doors have opened, whereas the Victoria line it goes, "This is Green Park" as soon as the doors open, it's better I think! Don't ask me how I know that...

I don't like the Piccadilly's, sounds too robotic. I'm in the minority here but I like the Central/Victoria line ones!

The noise I was on about is the rattling rails not the howling sound which I believe is due to the air pressure. The sound at the start of this video? It isn't unique to ATO controlled lines... Does anyone know what the sound is from the second video in my first post?

Is the noise in this video the sound you mean?
And the sound before a train enters the station... Is this the one? I've noticed you can hear the tracks echoing more these days, is it to do with continuous welded rail? I was waiting for a northbound Victorian line train at Oxford Circus the other day and I could hear practically the entire journey from Green Park! Anyway heres the video, I made a comment on it a few months ago asking about that very noise...

The Jubilee's busiest section according to data available on the internet is Finchley Rd to Baker Street. This is from a few years back, but post extension. I used the line daily until late 2006, and the 7th car made no obvious difference in overcrowding. Yes, 30tph is a pretty lame figure post ATO, especially when the line was originally planned to run 36tph. Dead end termini, and tipping out at intermediate reversing points may even make 30tph difficult to operate! Isn't it planned to be 33tph? It seems dwell times are more of a problem, the doors were open for nearly a minute today at Oxford Cirus EB, and it was in the afternoon rush hour. The doors should be open for something more like 20 seconds!

I doubt it, as currently the Jubilee line carries fewer passengers per year over a significantly longer route...
