For 8 cars of COCP stock to run with rear and near doors cut out, the platform length would be 350', however as all in town platforms were a minimum of 300' long, and the lengthening works of the 60s comprised roughly 70' additions to the platforms, it would make sense that most platforms are roughly about 400' long. An S8 train is... ~435' long?

Thanks strange the lack of interchange isn't commented on -- like it never existed...

I look forward to seeing the station when the upgrade is finished. As it stands right now, it is a pretty low key job. Would imagine it will be quieter though for the next few months without all the Northern line oiks. More room for the sophisticated Central line passengers who appreciate fine wines and classical music.

So question about these new passageways for accessing the platforms. How are the Northern line platforms arranged at the moment? Are they side by side with separation already for new passageways in between?

Are they side by side with separation already for new passageways in between? From the London Reconnections site, I understand the work is to fit a new lift shaft and other connections between the platforms - this will involve excavating the entire width between the platforms at some points, hence the need to close the platforms themselves. The track won't be disturbed, but the back walls of the platforms may acquire a slight convexity. Thanks strange the lack of interchange isn't commented on -- like it never existed... I picked up an April edition tube map a few days ago - TCR shown as Central Line only, with a dagger explaining what's happened to the Northern

Just noted today; there are some platform shields up at TCR apart from at the headwall where a roundel and t/op info is visible.

I don't see the need for a restriction that far past the station. But that would explain why it took so bloody long to go through!

It means that passing trains are trevelling at 5mph throughout the whole of the station. If they speed up as soon as the cab is past the headwall then the rear of the train will be moving quite quickly by the time it gets to the headwall.
There is an access door to the small area next to the headwall from the area enclosed by the track protection shield.

But trains would be moving pretty much as quickly as such on a normal day...

Just checking out TfL's video of how the new TCR will look. At first, you go through the palatial new bit, with a enormous ticket hall and first passages, but there is a notable bit where you turn towards the Northern line platforms and everything gets narrow again. While everything is reclad in the bright, fresh Central line clinic look, you can clearly see it is the same old TCR as you approach the Northern line platforms.

Hopefully the lack of change on the Northern Line platforms is just the videographers being lazy. I'm sure they'll update the signage to conform to the modern LU signage. And I can't believe they'll keep the horrible inch-thick grouting - suspect it will be replaced with white tiles, with the Paolozzi mosaics in situ.

There's a video? <clickyclick> ooh!I'm really glad the Paolozzi is staying. It's a bit funky and in-yer-face when you're travelling through first thing in the morning with a bit of a ~hmm~ headache - but it's a stunning bit of art nonetheless.

This is because the new passageways have to fit between the Northern line platforms. Unless they're moved further apart there isn't really another way of doing it.

Any reason for such a long speed restriction through the entire station? Dust control? Turbulence hazard to the temporary hoardings?....

Are they going to remove the wonderful yellow and green tiling on the platform floors and walls?

Went through the southbound platfrom on the Northern line yesterday. The metal barriers are now gone. The walls have been stripped bare, with the horrid 1980s tiling and signage gone (hooray!) - presumably a more modern finish will be applied in due course. For better or worse, the Paolozzi murals are still in situ.

Yea, I wanna see if TCR looks horrible now. What do you mean looks horrible now? That implies it didn't look horrible before.

Well, many stations post-refurb look much worse (some excluded), maybe TCR is one of the horrible ones now.

Nothing much seems to have changed to be honest. The interchange passage has no adverts and most of the walls on the platform and some of the floors have been plastered/concreted but not painted or tiled. Most of the floor has the same oblong beige tiles as before. However, there are big new exits visible, blocked off with blue metal hoarding.

Surprisingly TfL haven't updated the tube map on their website yet to show the restored interchange. They're usually pretty quick about these things - the ELL H&I extension appeared on the map the moment it opened. I can understand why they haven't updated the paper maps yet as they're probably waiting for Blackfriars to reopen.
