Nope. No Chiltern services south of Amersham via the Met on both days, and Met reversing south to north at Northwood.
Train 407 is operating every 40 mins and not the (former) usual 30 mins.

Why every 40 minutes though? This is nothing new and the shuttle has operated at 1.5 tph on many occasions over the past couple of years Reason being that Northwood is used to reverse the entire north end service on the Met (reversing limited at 6 tph) This 6 tph is split between 3 tph WF and 3tph AME The shuttle therefore cannot connect with every AME service so connects with every other one at 40 minute (1.5 tph) intervals

I assumed that the 407 on 11 December 2010 was the "last regularly scheduled" day of the shuttle. It's still allocated for situations like these.
But how did you know it was coming back?

But how did you know it was coming back? Not sure who you are directing this question to:- If it is LNWR electric, then I imagine it is because he has received/viewed the printed TTN for the weekend in question as it was issued at the end of last week (apologies if I have presumed incorrectly) If it is myself, then that is because matters such as this are part of the day job

Yes, make sure you catch it, because when it finishes, there will never ever be another Chesham shuttle service formed of 4-cars of A-stock. Honest. No really ;D

Do we know the unit that will be used?

Far too early to say - that probably won't be known by the depot itself until a day or 2 before. What I do know is that there will be 2 units. Both units will run as an 8-car to Rickmansworth, and be split overnight. One will then become the shuttle, with the other becoming the spare.

It will definitely be two double enders though.

No really ;D I just have a feeling there maybe just one more very last chance in January 2012 for another trip on 407. I could be wrong, but it was I that predicted the August outing. All I will say though is after January there will have to be a plan B, as by then the 8 + 4 car A stocks will be much reduced in number.

Do we know the unit that will be used? There are currently 2 x double ended formations in service - 5062+5100 and 5064+5092. That could of course change by next weekend.

Maybe 5091 should do it if it's still around ;-)

I have no doubt it will be back again - mainly because those of us in charge of running the service haven't been told anything (just as everyone and his uncle knew about August before we did). My reply was in support of my current "egg on face" campaign which some are aware of. With the way things have been going lately, I have jumped back on the "never say never" wagon, rather than believing my official info ;D ;D

A tear jerking thriller from the people who brought you Last Acton Hero! Xerces Fobe ;D Yes, very good that . Maybe the best way for the A stock to end its service would be to assemble and fire live artillery either side of the Chesham branch on one of these Sinatra like "last ever" outings and allow it to die in battle rather than being dragged off to a cold fate at the breakers.

With the above line closures in mind, how would I get to Chalfont from London? Is a replacement bus? I don't want to have to drive.

On topic - excellent that 407 will be running, unfortunately I more than likely won't be around to see it. Someone take some pics/video!

I'll be there somehow. How far is it to walk from Watford Junction to Watford (MET)? I'm not good with buses!
