I really can't get my head around how someone can spew forth so much vitriol and contempt for something as inoffensive as the C-stock. As far as I can tell, they've trundled on for 40-odd years, doing their job reliably, if not excitingly. I have as much fondness for them as I do the other older types, and will miss their rattly "real train" charm, which is something that - quality though it undoubtedly is - all the shiny plastic in the world will never be able to emulate.

The C Stock are less than popular due to their apparent unreliability, speaking of which, does anyone have any fleet figure for the C Stock's reliability? Last time I checked (bearing in mind it was 2010 when I last did), their rate was somewhere around 7000km mark, and in this day and age that is simply not good enough, even the considerably more elderly A Stock were achieving better figures at that time. While I do have a level of disdain for the S Stock, at least the Circle/H&C passengers are getting an increase in seating capacity and standing capacity as a result, the C Stock's time is due and their replacement is suitable for the next 40 odd years.

I actually agree with both above posts. In general the customer is getting a more suitable bit of kit for their journey. This doesn't stop some people expressing sadness for a train the type of which is fast disappearing.
Of course many would say there is no place for sentiment but let's just remember we are all enthusiasts here and if you can't have an opinion here where else can you have one?!
Personally I'm going to enjoy the DC motors, PCM and Westinghouse brakes for as long as is possible!

The official figures are available on the TFL website. They do confirm that the Circle/H+C fleet is the least reliable at approx 8300 km between failures. That said, I've been riding on C stock for 30 years and never known one to break down. I'm not a massive fan but they are very good at shifting crowds of passengers quickly during the peaks. The only downside is that they can get very cold in winter, especially at termini with all the doors open. John

Another thing if that the new S7s going go onto that Edgware Road to wimbledon line will that mean the end of C stock on that line.
Will they still use the odd one or two C stock trains on the mainline between Hammersmith to barking line and the odd one or two on the circle line or will it all go complected S7 Stock

They are made up of 3 2 car units so the power cars in the middle can be on the end (apart from I think 5555 because it doesn't work)

Can somebody tell me when they are going to stop using C stock on the Edgware Road to Wimbledon line ? May . For Circle & Hammersmith, it might be 10/2/14 but I'm not 100% if this is correct.

Even once the C&H goes 100% S7 there will be nothing to stop the Hammersmith DDM offering up a C Stock for service on one of the trains which can be operated by C Stock. The only outstanding section of the Edgware Road - Wimbledon service which is not yet ready is Parsons Green no.27 siding, and Putney Bridge; both of which will be S7 enabled by the end of this week.

And H&C crews (both Hammersmith and Edgware Road?) will still work the District C Stocks to and from Hammersmith.

This may be a stray from the subject of this thread but I had a thought last night. Now that platforms have been extended between High St. Ken and Edgward Road would there be any reason why D Stock could not now operate Wimblewares? I'm not suggesting that it will happen but just wonder if it possible. For instance would there be any issues on isolating front and end doors?

The platforms haven't been extended though, it is just that the s stock have the ability to cut out a number of doors to allow for station duties. The d stock can't cut out that many doors at once, and additionally, the cars are slightly longer than the s stock cars, so there would be some clearance issues in places

As I mentioned before, I doubt that the H&C / Circle will be officially all S7 stock until the Wimbledon - Edgware Road section of the District goes all S stock too. Due to the interworking, there will always be a chance that a C stock could end up on any of the lines. I do expect C stock to become very few and far between from now on though. Only 3 scheduled in service on the H&C / Circle on M-F, which I'm sure is set to decrease further in February.
Hopefully, they'll convert the Wimbledon - Edgware Road section, then run an official last run over the H&C / Circle. Let's hope that they do organise something. Like others have said, the C stock have been in service for 43+ years, which is very commendable, and thoroughly deserving of a send off, despite what some people on this forum think of them. I really think that they do have character, although much of this dates from their pre refurbished condition.
I don't think any of us would argue that the C stock is a classic train, but they have done their bit for London, and I'll never forget them hurtling along, whining like a washing machine!

I concur that Superteacher's comments on the C Stock. They have done a good job over the years. Thanks also for confirming my unrealistic thought about D Stock to Edgware Rd. It was a sort of dream around 4am this morning!

There could of been some problems on the line causing a C stock to be used.

I saw a c stock this evening at Plaistow and yesterday evening at Mile end I thought they didn't run to barking on the weekends anymore After a service disruption, trains sometimes get reformed, so C stock can still end up in places where they are not timetabled to go i.e. Barking at weekends.

I was on an HST into Paddington on Sunday evening, where I changed to the H&C to get to Moorgate and the Northern Line. While I was expecting to see fewer Cs, I hadn't quite realized just how quickly they had been disappearing. S stocks all over the place, I think I only saw a couple of Cs. I must admit that the S stocks do look quite modern, and I like the big DMI on the front. I find the seats to be much more comfortable than the '09s on the Vic, or the new seats on the Jubilee/Northern. But I also do like the Cs and will be sad to see them go. To agree with some of you, there's not much special about them, and they may not be the most reliable, but they've been around a while and are part of the "tube scenery". I do enjoy them at speed, too, and all the associated noises, the ride quality, etc!
As a farewell, it would be nice to see one thrashing up the Met mainline line like the last A-stock did - after all, they have been known to venture up that way in the past! :-) Hopefully there will be some kind of send-off.
(I also refer to a certain service as the Wimbleware... sorry! ;-) )
