The track reminds me of some of some brands of model railway track where the sleeper base is solid plastic and also includes a representation of ballast

Hardly much of a newsworthy announcement though.
Where’s the actual opening date? Without that it’s just a load of pointless words about nothing in particular!

Passing through Bank station today, the recorded announcements described London Overground as part suspended between Gospel Oak and Barking Riverside. The rainbow board at London Bridge showed the suspension as just Gospel Oak to Barking.

Just reviewed my 'video footage library' and discovered that I dont have footage of the 710s using the bay platform at Barking - when I tried to film it the trains were using platforms 7/8.
Must try to rectify this tomorrow (Friday). Hopefully I'm not too late!

TfL website says the whole line is currently suspended because of a signal failure at Walhtamstow Queens Road. Not a good start

oh boy, what a day ....
Yes I went to the new Riverside station, I had a very long wait for a train at Barking as one was cancelled (altho' it later did arrive - at platform 1 !!!) but eventually I got there.
I filmed the train I arrived on as it departed from the station and my plan was to film the next train arriving.
But there was no 'next' train; or rather (to be pedantic) the next three trains were shown on the passenger information displays as being 'on time' but instead of actually showing up an automated announcement said that they had been cancelled ... and then we were told by station staff that the service was being suspended and to avoid being stranded at a station in the midst of a building site we should catch a bus to Barking.
As it happens, the bus on route EL1 took me all the way to Ilford (where I was going), but I had wanted a lovely air-conditioned London Overground train to Wansted Park & then a lovely air-conditioned Elizabeth line train to Ilford - not a hot double deck bus on a route that includes speed humps. BTW, it was a NRM type of bus with opening windows and stairway handrails so warm that they were only just about safe to touch and metal edged step treads that burnt the back of one of my lower legs when I briefly touched it.
Photos to come, hopefully later this evening.

It's not completely closed and is still used by an empty stock working in the early morning (04:26 Willesden TMD - Barking Platform 1(Rev) - Woodgrange Park(Rev) - Barking Riverside.) presumably to keep route knowledge up to date in case access to the new line is unavailable.

I would imagine that the old platform would be a useful bolt hole for a defective train too.

I thought that the platform is still needed as it has the only mobility lift at the station and the underpass below the platforms (which is accessed via ramps) creates a fully accessible walking route to all the other platforms.

The District line side (platform 2) is still in use. However, access to the lift doesn't actually need the platform to be 'live', an example of this would be a disused westbound platform at Caledonian Road and Barnesbury which is used for access to the footbridge.

Yes thats always an option, and of course for all but eastbound District line passengers sealing off both platform edges would not make any difference - as access to the underpass (via the ramps) is what is important. I suspect that eastbound District line passengers would be 'very unhappy' were all trains to stop opening their doors on the left. Especially as the announcements on the trains expressly tell passengers who want mobility access to alight via the doors on the left. By way of contrast Hammersmith & City line passengers do not benefit from this option as these trains end their journeys here and never open their doors on the left side.

The District line side (platform 2) is still in use. The District line side of that platform is actually designated 1a. Platform 2 is on the right hand side of the same District line track and platform 3 is the LUL bay road platform.

This film on YouTube may be of interest. It required two visits as the first time I was there the service fell over, so I had to return another day.

Travelled on the line yesterday; I thought it was all a bit surreal. Magnificent but deserted terminus; a giant greenhouse in the hot sun, the windbreak glass on the platform totally unnecessary. A wasteland between the LTS line and the river. Still, quite good to traverse the connections to the Goblin at the London end of Barking, which I think I last did in 1958 on a Southend Central- Walthamstow Mid return excursion behind a 2P and a rake of LMS coaches!
