For the third time in its history, Colindale station may be on the cusp of metamorphosis once again. New housing developments, the industry that is fuelling developments all over the capital is set to replace the biscuit box of ticket hall that is still in its infant years with a more cavernous ticket hall to cater for the predicted uptake in passenger numbers stemming from new housing developments of which the new station would be eventually sandwiched between shown in the image below. If all goes to plan, work would start in 2021 being completed a year later, this would also see the station gain step free access. A consultation on the redevelopments is currently open until 21 Dec 2018.Article from IanVisits Illustration of the proposed upgraded station – external view Illustration of the proposed upgraded station – internal view

The faceless sidewalls are uninspiring, but the roof looks like a station roof ought to. Is it wooden? That type of laminated beamwork was a fad in the late 1950s, but proved less durable than was hoped.

Can we keep the discussion on-topic please, rather than any fanciful suggestions about renaming stations after suppliers of timber.

My apologises to those I've offended, but it's not exactly something Stanley Heaps would be proud of. I do remember reading, might not have been on this forum, about stations being sponsored? Again my apologises.

We should remember how long Colindale had to put up with a 'temporary' ticket office to replace what the Luftwaffe knocked over, but:
To paraphrase as song from 1967:
" Hey-Hey We're the Monkees,
We know you've seen it all before!"
Incidentally, I'd also like to see, even in this sort of blurry wish-wash idealisation advert-style, a passenger concourse heaving with use, not the mere dozen herein.

The new Abbey Wood station has laminated wooden roof beams (or,at least that's what they look like)...I hope lamination technology has moved on in the last 60 years or so...

There's a lot of wood in the new London Bridge concourse too www.networkrail.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/London-bridge-station.jpg

Wood is one of my favourite construction materials, chiefly because it not only gives scope for skilled design and craftsmanship, but actually demands it. Although, until you can find a sustainable supply of Teak or ancient Oak, it remains high on maintenance costs.

Just looking at the IanVisits article and it mentions that the development will be partially funded by the Government’s Levelling Up Fund. I thought the purpose of that was to close the "north-south gap", or is Colindale so far north of Westminster that, in their eyes, it qualifies?
Also, the lack of replacement buses is quite surprising as Colindale serves a huge area, with Burnt Oak and Hendon Central hardly convenient. Perhaps funding was the issue?

The impression I got regarding buses would be that normal bus routes would be enhanced rather than a special route or routes being provided.

re: the use of copious amounts of wood, I hope that the possibility of woodworm has been considered.
re: replacement buses, the newspaper article revealed that 51.1% of the displaced passengers said that using these added 30 to 60 minutes to their journey durations - I am not surprised by this appalling state of affairs as apart from maybe the Thameslink stations at Hendon and Brent Cross West (which probably have faster trains but impose a significant extra financial burden on PAYG users) there is probably very little option for decent alternative services that do not extend journey times
*If only* there was another railway route to Edgware that could have had its services increased to meet with higher demand ... this might not have helped everyone, but it would have helped many people.
sigh

We are now officially a week away from the station closure. I’ve seen some posters at Colindale on Facebook advertising the station closure. Has anyone seen any other posters across stations on the Northern Line? And have CLD stickers started appearing in carriages?

There is signage and audio announcements at Edgware, but there isn't any on the line diagrams in this car at least.

Yes, but you'll have to wait until after I get home before I can upload them.
I also saw signage in the lifts at Goodge Street and TCR, but not on the line diagrams (although I only used the Central line at the latter). I didn't see any signage at Bank, but I only walked past the platforms en-route to the DLR. I didn't hear any audio announcements about the closure at any of the three stations.
