The Steam on the District weekend is 22nd/23rd and the Staff of the Forum thought we’d hold one of our occasional Summer Meets Socials to tie in with it. Before now we’ve watched trains go past at The Railway at Kew Gardens and ventured as far away as Strand on the Green but this year have plumped for a previous Forum favourite of the Red Lion and Pineapple, just a few minutes walk from either Ealing Common or Acton Town and a short tube ride from Ealing Broadway where steam services that day terminate. A map is here. We’d imagine we’d be there from mid-afternoon and there will be more details will be published nearer the time. Christmas For those of you who like to plan ahead, the Christmas Social is likely to be in its usual location on the day of a certain Admin’s birthday, Saturday 14th December. This is the main meeting of the Forum of the year and it’d be great to see many people there as possible.

Damnit, our attempts to send you to a different pub to the rest of us has been foiled!

I just want to say that that typo was definitely nothing to do with me in the slightest. Anyway, I’ve looked thoroughly at the original post and don’t even get what you’re talking about.

This is totally unacceptable, I sent the organizers of Steam on the District what dates in May would be acceptable to me and they’ve completely ignored me.😂😂😂 Just my luck, my brother decides to get married in May and this event is a month later. I would have really enjoyed that social get together. Maybe next time.

Also conveniently next door to the local police station, I see.
Does this house the Met's EL (English Language) Division & its' notorious P(Pendantry)-Squad, one wonders.

Arrests at Forum Socials are now at an all time low so we don't expect the Quiz Team to get their collars felt this time despite some of the more serious discrepancies creeping into the daily clues once again.

Although a staff member on this Forum, and one whom you'd never suspect, recently let it slip out that they've been thrown out of this particular pub, so some might say that there's a precedent for this type of behaviour.

If you turn up whistlekiller2000, I suspect that the riot squad will need to be out in force

Just a bump that we're intending to have a mini social on Saturday 22nd June at the Red Lion and Pineapple, just a few minutes walk from either Ealing Common or Acton Town and a short tube ride from Ealing Broadway where steam services that day terminate. A map is here. I would imagine that people might be there from about 3pm onwards but please feel free to contribute to this thread to let others know if you're intending to come and the time you're intending to be there from. Under 18s are welcome to attend. Staff who work for TfL are all DBS checked as a matter of course, as are various other staff members in education and healthcare. Better still, please bring along an adult. We will circulate the number of the Forum Phone (if it still exists!) in due course but nowadays anyone struggling to get to the venue or find us might be best to send a PM or post in this thread.

Still recovering from my ongoing knee injury, so probably unlikely I'll make this. In the event that I do, probably going to be there from about 14:00

Just a final bump, everyone. Hopefully we'll see a few people on Saturday from around 3 or so. Any difficulties finding anyone, pop a message into this area or send a PM to me.

Also conveniently next door to the local police station, I see. The Aeronaut (formerly The Redback) is next door. This is across the road. The Redback was legendary for needing the police, the Red Lion and Pineapple mostly hosted teachers at lunchtimes..

Tom, in my schooldays (1976-81), it was The Chequers, Barkingside that hosted our teachers at lunchtimes, as well as a sizeable contingent of the sixth form. Being opposite Barkingside police station didn't seem to deter this wanton display of under-age drinking......

My teachers frequented "the office on Bath Street", better known as the Bath Arms public house, just down the road from the school in Cheddar. This had a reputation for serving anyone who could see over the bar.

My ex mrs used to work in that pub spent many a happy hour propping up the bar circa 2003

For some reason the Aeronaut in its current incarnation is popular with teachers. Had the sobering experience of bumping into my former head of Sixth form there this Friday past actually.

A good day was had by all with Rich32 , Chris M , whistlekiller2000 , jason15c , Dstock7080 , Tomcakes , Tom , goldenarrow , beingcharley and me having a great time, sending back the constant supply of dirty glasses, drinking the Prosecco and tequila (bad mistake) which just arrived and laughing at Tom 's 'I do all my own shunts' t-shirt. The date for Christmas is already confirmed - Saturday 14th December - so do put it in your diaries and come along. While you're there you can also wish Dstock7080 a very happy birthday
