Figured I'd drop an update on Ilford as things have finally started to happen. Roundels have started going in (although weirdly the boards appear to be designed slightly differently to the others on the line, not sure why) as well as the non-crossrail platforms getting their plain blue signage. The temporary entrance on Iford Hill looks pretty much done and the new platform barriers on platform 1 are all in and signage to the temporary entrance is up so I wouldn't be surprised to see the temporary entrance open on Monday and if not then the following Monday. Quick update on Marland, Forest Gate and Manor Park: These all appear to be complete. Update: I should have waited until I'd left for work before posting this . On the way into the station this morning they were handing out leaflets (and chocolate for some reason) about exactly this along with voice announcements, the temporary entrance will open after this weekends line closure with a reopening estimate of "Autumn 2020".

hmm, very bad news for traders near to Ilford station - will any of them still be solvent by the time the station reopens?

Any pictures of these new 'slightly different' signs? I think this is what Deep Level is referring to, that is actually a faux cover (hiding lift signs) held in place by side mounted screws. Thanks goldenarrow was going to get a photo in the morning . Now that they've put one where I stand in the morning for my train I've had a closer look and as you say it appears to be covering over a final design. I assumed they were waiting for the main entrance and new Ilford Hill entrance to both be completed with the final design listing what exits are where, I forgot about the lifts!

Used public transport for the first time since March last week and I noticed the new Ilford Hill entrance to serve the new developments seems to be coming up really fast, was a surprise as it hadn't even been started in March.

That's interesting. It looks like a change of plan with a lift to the up fast line platform.
Originally step free access was only going to be available via the old side entrance/exit.

The new Ilford Hill entrance is coming along very well and quickly, looks like just a couple of months off completion.
I took some photos a while back but kept forgetting to post them here, it's progressed a lot since then so no point posting then now. I'll get some new ones at some point.

So, Ilford will have three entrances/exits all with ticket gates, on the bridge, Ilford Hill, and York Rd --- or am I getting this wrong?

Ilford Hill was to be the level access for platform 1 to save money. It appears there is now a lift tower for this platform on the front of the station.
I'm not sure if this is instead of opening the Ilford Hill entrance on a permanent basis.

The new Ilford Hill entrance goes directly onto platform 1 right where the footbridge is so I imagine there will be a sliding gate to encourage people to go straight onto the footbridge unless platform 1 is being used. It is my understanding that the current temporary entrance on Ilford Hill will close when Cranbrook Road reopens.
I was also told some time ago that a ramp was going to be installed to allow level access from York Road to platform 4 once the tracks for platform 5 were lifted however the tracks were lifted some years ago now but still no ramp.
Personally I'd like to see the footbridge replaced and lifts added, especially when you consider how many homes the current York Road and new Ilford Hill entrances serve.

I thought that an entrance / exit to Ilford Hill was going to become a permanent feature as it will help reduce crowding at Cranbrook Road - and would be excellent as an interchange facility with bus routes that call at Ilford Hill

I was shopping in Ilford Town centre yesterday evening and went to the station to try and get a freebie newspaper. Whilst there I noticed that a new section of wet weather protection metal framework had appeared. Previously the weather protection the same length on both sides, extending from the station entrance the length of the section seen on the left with the 'no entry' sign. Ilford-Entrance-P1670831

The no entry sign which people are ignoring ! Until a few days ago the signed way to the trains was on the left and the signed way from the trains was on the right! Why it was changed is a mystery to me.

It was being ignored even before the switch, personally I feel it's better this way as most people use the ticket machines (which are on the right) when entering station rather than when exiting the station so this way less people have to cross paths. I'm assuming they're expecting more queuing. The frustrating thing though is that they installed this during a weekday morning which meant that passengers both entering and exiting the station were forced to use the one side that morning which isn't exactly helpful right now. Before I went on my Christmas break I could see that the new Ilford Hill entrance was almost complete with power and ticket barriers all working. I have some photos that I still need to post at some point.

I assume that the new entrance will feed in to the footbridge at the London end of the station.
If so, will the footbridge be able to cope with passenger numbers whilst we await the completion and reopening of the rebuilt main entrance?

It does indeed. The entrance isn't really convinient for people coming from the High Street or Cranbrook Road and is more to pick up people from the new housing developments on Ilford Hill and Roden Street (I'm sure some alighting from EL1s will also use it) so I'm sure the increased use won't be too bad. There seems to have been some minor improvements made to the footbridge over the festive period as well. One thing I have noticed is that a wooden hoarding has been erected to prevent those using the entrance from wandering onto the London end of Platform 1, the fact that they've used a wooden hoarding rather than a metal fence leads me to believe that this is only temporary so perhaps there's a plan to build a new footbridge further west or perhaps just a lift. Apologies for the poor quality photo, I really struggled to get a good one because of it's location. This was taken at the beginning of December so work has progressed to almost complete since then, the hoarding I refer to hadn't yet appeared in the first photo so you can just about make it out in the second to the left of the stairs. I will attempt to get better photos when I have more time.

The original proposal for a lift to platform 1 was abandoned as it would have reached a point on the platform behind the staircase with insufficient space beside the stairs for a wheelchair to pass safely.
Step free access/egress for platform 1 would only be on Ilford Hill.
However, the pictures of the main entrance show a lift tower in the area above platform 1.

Deep LevelThanks for the pics, the older footbridge (replaced when the line was converted from 6.25kV to 25kV) used to be a little to the west of here - closer to the York Road entrance. Alas, the rebuilding was also a downgrading as the older footbridge also had a proper roof - this one is open to the elements.

Got a new pic this morning (sorry it's dark, having to get into the office early atm). The final section of fencing on the outside has been installed and temporary fencing at that part has been removed, it appears it was left off to help get large building materials and panels through so it surely could be open in a matter of weeks. I've also taken a better photo of the wooden hoarding I was referring to (behind the stairs), it definitely appears to have been built to be temporary and the entrance appears to have been designed to have a much wider opening. Looking at the area it's covering it seems too narrow to add a lift so this can only lead me to assume that a new staircase further west is soon to be installed. Edit 06/01: Took this one this morning. There were a bunch of people in hi vis doing something, possibly quality checks. Looks like the screens have been installed too. Annoyingly I had to go get my train and later realised that the angle of the photo was terrible and the gantry pole hid some of the things inside the new entrance including the help point and little leaning bench at the bottom of the steps.

Interesting to see... I'll be in Ilford Town Centre tomorrow but alas lockdown rules mean that I won't have a good enough reason to enter the station, and I am in no hurry to collect a £200 fine.
But for the virus situation the new main station building (Cranbrook Road) would have been open by now. Instead its nowhere near ready.

I was there this afternoon, albeit only on the street side of the fares paid area and will have some photos later today. So far they have not been downloaded from my camera.
