Yes - it's another closure on the eastern end of the line involving Siemens.

The closure is still happening on its original date. It’s showing on the website. But not on the PDF for some weird reason. Someone should note that to TFL.

Although Tom might have said it's not going ahead looking at the PDF file, he is involved with all things signalling on LU, he would know more than what is in the public domain.

Hope this is a sign that the proposals/requests by the contractor are being reviewed thoroughly - Public Info about progress is hard to come by, but I hope project is making making effective progress (including resolving the issues Debden - Epping) both in standard Eng hrs + within other possessions (2 weekends shown in June)

The closure between Woodford and Epping on Saturday 22nd - Sunday 23rd June is not for signalling works. It's for rail grinding between Woodford and Epping.

Yes understood - but to minimise costs and customer disruption, if the grinder works within a possession with points secured, presumably "signalling" is not required and with some coordination of areas or Roads, the room based works and axle free testing at certain times should be quite possible.

Although Tom might have said it's not going ahead looking at the PDF file, he is involved with all things signalling on LU, he would know more than what is in the public domain. Indeed so - I am aware of various dates being discussed but they're not for public consumption at this stage. Yes understood - but to minimise costs and customer disruption, if the grinder works within a possession with points secured, presumably "signalling" is not required and with some coordination of areas or Roads, the room based works and axle free testing at certain times should be quite possible. Nice theory - doesn't work in practice. What if the grinding work is running behind, but the room based work is now changed over and ready for testing? One team has just caused a delay to another. What if the delay on the grinding delays the room team so much that they can't complete their testing in the time remaining, and they end up needing to go off shift and a key member of staff is now unavailable for 12 hours? Or worse, that a service delay in the morning is now unavoidable? There are other practical things to consider. Who takes responsibility for returning the signalling system to operational service? Is it the technician covering the grinder, who is now returning a modified system to service (and whom has little or no understanding of the extent of the modification, nor has the competence to return a modified system to service), or is it the team doing the alterations in the room, for whom covering the grinder is outside their work scope and are now being asked to return a system to service, taking responsibility for the work and testing following the grinder, which is carried out by another organisation? It simply does not work to have two organisations working on different parts of the same system at the same time in this manner.

Thanks for the explanation of the issues in this example and I can understand your concerns - never the less I hope the Planning team are highlighting opportunities for consideration else we are liable to have an awful lot of planned closures on the central line.

Latest update of the 2 Central line projects (to keep the existing system going + Progressive modernisation of system)
The Central line signalling life extension and Control and information projects continue to make progress on obsolescence and maintainability by replacing key assets on the Central line.
In March 2024, in collaboration with Siemens, there was a successful 52-hour closure on the east end of the Central line. New assets were tested and commissioned to replace obsolescent signalling room assets at Debden, Epping, and Theydon Bois.
Feasibility and planning for the first tranche of the incremental upgrade to the signalling interlocking computers on the east end of the line continues, with full contract award expected in the first quarter of 2026.

Latest progress update from the Oct Planning & Investment committee report.
"The Central line life-extension project continues to replace old equipment, with hardware installations completed at Ealing Broadway, Epping, North Acton and Woodford. On the control and information side, we have started the installation of the control centre network, with 10 out of 17 sites completed. Feasibility and planning for the first tranche of the incremental upgrade to the signalling interlocking computers on the east end of the line is ongoing, with full contract award expected in the first quarter of 2026."
Note this is in addition to the work performed prior to this reporting quarter at Northolt. Epping, Theydon Bois and Debden. I suspect fixes/snagging have also been performed at these sites to resolve the operational issue noted previously in this thread.
