Now that there have been a few weekend possessions, does anyone happen to know how far the progress is on the construction of a 3rd platform at Stanmore?

And when is it planned to become operational? ;D There are more Wembley-Stanmore closures later on in the year. Assuming that they are also for the 3rd platform, then I don't think it will be operational until late '06, or early '07.

The original plan for Stanmore's third platform was that Baker Street SCC would never control it - Neasden SCC would. However, in the complex web that seems to have woven elsewhere, nobody is really sure if
a) The area will be re-signalled (possibly for ATO) and passed to Neasden as their first part of the older line b) The area will be re-signalled (possibly for ATO), kept at Baker Street and then at a later date passed to Neasden c) Cheaply cobbled together for a while so Baker Steet control it for a year or 3 and then passed to Neasden d) The 3rd platform will become a white elephant for a few years with nobody controlling it
My money, cynic that I am, is on c or d

Now that there have been a few weekend possessions, does anyone happen to know how far the progress is on the construction of a 3rd platform at Stanmore? No sign of any platforms yet and looks like there still some major work to be done! Some of the hoarding has now been removed and you can see a 4m high secant piled wall about the length of the existing platform retaining the embankment that's been partly cut away. I think the hoarding may have gone down as work will be getting closer to the track. Where the new track should go there's still an earth berm for access for construction traffic and rolls of what looks like geotextile-membrane for drainage. The alignment suggests the new road will join with the main track before the overbridge but I don't know.

There are no possessions booked up to August Bank Holiday. Which is almost 6 months after the original planned date of it opening for use. c) Cheaply cobbled together for a while so Baker Steet control it for a year or 3 and then passed to Neasden d) The 3rd platform will become a white elephant for a few years with nobody controlling it My money, cynic that I am, is on c or d

I was always amused as a guard when some 'wag' started to alter the Northern line diagrams so that Tuffnel Park ended up reading as 'Stuff nelly Parker'. Never did find out who Nelly Parker was though! ;D When looking at the 'WAY OUT' signs through OPO mirrors you see 'TUO YAW' which sounds like a good name for a Chinese Restaurant! ;D ;D

No. they've sort of cut the earthworks back behind the present bufferstops, flattened the area and laid some kind of layering down, ready for the track and ballast.
Track & Ballast...? Sounds like a name for a pub!

Trying to bring this thread back onto track. Here is a piccy of Stanmore taken yesterday. The new retaining wall is in place. The earth/rubble between the existing track and the retaining wall is almost cleared and being flattened in readyness for the platform and track foundations/ballast. www.flickr.com/photos/stephenk1977/217135495/in/set-1617237/

Will the existing platforms be renumbered, or will they be arranged 2=1 3?

It would make sense to renumber the platforms.

Is this pipe also the reason why surface stock is banned from platform 1? For that matter what gauge is the 3rd platform being built to?

What's the platform edge pipe for? (in the stephenk pic reply#22)) Do you mean the railings? To stop people falling on the track I would assume. As trains don't berth at that part of the platform, then it would be dangerous to have an unnecessary drop.
