10 of them in the last three days, all found with lumps of frozen ice inside the housing, even with the snow covers on.
i blame the foreign ice, and the mayor " its the right kind of snow, just too much of it "

Yes I was chasing a number of earths the other evening. Managed to identify 2 trains that clearly had motors shorting out, and get them to Neasden.
Still, if this year is a one-off and snow like this does not return for another 10-20 years, the A-stock will be a distant memory. I wonder how protected the S-stock is. We could end up in the same position the Jubilee did on Monday.

The D stocks are also suffering motor problems - 7 of them were laid up in Upminster today alone!

If two of the best LU stocks are having problems I'd just put it down to bad weather!

Possibly not, it would depend on how often it happened. If after a mild frost there were faults I'd have a case. Only time will tell? All trains have their limits.

I also think this is the bad weather and not the trains, if the D stock are also having problems. The D stocks are also suffering motor problems - 7 of them were laid up in Upminster today alone! Did this affect the service much? When I looked on the TfL website this afternoon, the District had a good service. |

A good service description doesn't necessarily mean all scheduled trains are in service I was spare second half, but I suspect something in the region of five out of the seven peak extras that come out of Upminster for the evening peak did not do so. I dunno what the situation was like at Ealing Common though (they also have seven out for the evening peak).... |

There was more concern at having enough de-icing units out. |

What happened to the Jubilee? Stalled trains on the open sections, followed swiftly by the assisting trains stalling, followed swiftly on at least 1 occasion by the assisting train to the assisting train stalling ;D Overall, my experience from a Service Control angle is that when the thermometer dips to a point not even as low as this week, 96TS instantly suffers from frozen doors and in icy conditions, easily comes off juice. This then leads to a rapid shutdown of its on-train systems and a quite rapid loss of air, none of which can easily be returned. |

motor changes well into double figures now, and around ten trains pulled from the service, repaired and then back out.
