Nice to see everyone today at Acton. On the ride down I noticed the wedgelock couplers on the 1973ts were covered up with a sort of sheeting, why is this? Is dust getting into the studs?
For those that don't know, only double ended 1973 stock units have wedgelock couplers, single ended DM have simple mechanical couplers of a similar type to those seen on 'A' end 1972 stock DM. The inner end 1973ts UNDM have wedgelock couplers however.
Any ideas?

Tubelines are using them to improve the reliability of middle couplers as they get full of dirt from the railway.
There was a picture in a recent Underground News and an explanation.....
