I'm having awful trouble logging in. I usually keep FF3 open all day, but I log in and out as I need to. FF3 holds my password.
Recently though, I have been coming back and it hasn't remembered me ( in the 'saved form' box?). I have to type in the full username (as opposed to just the first letter) then if I hit 'login' it comes up with the 'error' page but now neatly fills in my password so off I go!
If I empty the cache it sometimes clears it - but sometimes not. Closing the FFtab does not clear the fault - I have to close FF completely then it restores things once I reopen.
Assuming nobody else is having this problem, which has only started recently, what else do I need to clear/empty/reset to get things working properly again? I don't think it's Proboards coz I don't get the same problem with Google Chrome.
Thanks in advance.

Good question and I await an answer.
I have a similar problem in that if there is a link within a post to another page here, it puts me as a guest, and I can't log in for love nor money. (This is also on Firefox)

I'm using Firefox 3 on linux, also with stored passwords, and normally left open for many hours at a time (typically until flash either crashes it or slows it down to unusable speeds) and I'm not experiencing either of those issues. It is however extremely rare that I log out. Phil - what setting are you choosing for how long proboads remembers you when you log in?
Certainly for your problem SE13, possibly also for Phil's, it might be a corrupt cookie and it's a good idea to periodically clear them (make sure you know all your stored usernames and passwords first!) - in Firefox 3 press CTRL+SHIFT+DELETE, make sure that only "cookies" is checked and then click "clear private data now"

I use FF 3.0.10, and I've never experienced troubles you mention. I never log out, however.

I been having the odd issue with stored passwords, and not just on Proboards but other types of websites - I've concluded that it's a Firefox issue.

For Colin and anyone else who's having problems, I found this FF addon: addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4865Not only does it work brilliantly, it also found a 'rogue' DD stored password which I suspect was the root of the problem.

There appear to be two issues here. Firstly a bug in Firefox (were up to 3.0.10, but it was fixed in 3.0.9) www.mozilla-europe.org/en/firefox/3.0.9/releasenotes/It's the Cooke corruption bug. The forum would store a key for your logon in a cookie. if that gets lost, you have to log back in. Secondly, the domain name of the forum seems to have subtly changed (not sure when). I have cookie control set fairly tightly in Firefox, and my settings were dropping the new cookies. I have to set up an exception to allow cookies form sites where I want a persistent logon to work. (and I prefer it that way!) The old exception that I had set ewhen I registered was to allow cookies from districtdave.proboards39.com, I have just had to set one up for districtdave.proboards.com. In Firefox, Cookies are controlled from Tools/Options/Privacy/Cookies section. So - Make sure you are updated to 3.0.10, and set an allow exclusion for the board.

Yes, the server number was dropped from the URL about three months ago - Proboards have done this with all their forums and we've had no input in that whatsoever.

I now reckon it's a proboards thing. The latest (today) is that even sxipper won't recognize my login for any of the Proboards forums I have - intriguingly the (default) password manager is still recognizing me.
All my other sites are still recognized by sxipper so logically proboards must have made "improvements" over the weekend.
Or am I alone in this??

If you look in firefoxes Tools/Options/Privacy/Show-Cookies when the board has forgotten who you are, do you see three cookies form districtdave.proboards.com ? (named cdur, user and pass ?) These are how the board remembers you. If they disappear on their own, then it's probably Firefox, or some other pc maintenance or security software tidying up your cookies. Have you told Firefox to allow cookies from districtdave.proboards.com as per my post above?

As with a lot of these things it now seems to have corrected itself without any input from me (not even a reboot)! But if I had a car which kept getting annoying faults like this, I'd be very worried...................
