The purple was vinyl, but the stock's all going in for repaint and rebranding as National Express / c2c. And before the usual naysayers come along saying it's a waste of money, it's happening at a planned maintenance point.
Interestingly though, the artist's impression in the c2c magazine shows them as white with BLUE doors, not green, so at a guess this picture is before it goes off to repaint.

That to me looks like the original LTS livery (which I think these trains must have been in), before going c2c purple. Personally, I'm suprised that NEG are still going ahead. They are going from a trusted brand to National Express, which is has a bit of a negative reputation at the moment!

That's what I meant, it's a picture of a devinyled one, as opposed to a repainted for NXc2c livery one.
Same here. I think NX are on their last legs. I suppose we should be glad that at least they didn't decide to lose the 'c2c' name as well, which was threatened at one point.

Well financially NEG are in a very bad state financially. Though their coachwork (as they do now operate most of it themselves) has a much better name than their remaining rail work!

The class 357's were indeed originally delivered all over White; the first batch (357001 - 357046) had Green doors, and the second batch (357201 - 357228) had Grey doors.

Thank god that old livery is going. It was just a bad version of that WAGN livery that used to be on the 317/1s.

One 357 (357 203) has already received the full NaEx c2c livery and branding, it was hiding in the sheds at East Ham this morning.

357 203 is running in service today as a great advert for NaEx! Lets hope it's not diverted through Stratford today! added: this shot at speed rather oddly distorted the shape of the doors! tinyurl.com/mhj7vl

The graffiti vandals are going to love that, a nice blank white train to colour in!

It could get interesting in a few weeks time, when the trains that have been painted get diverted into/out of Liverpool Street. Might catch out a few unsuspecting Southend Victoria passengers!

As I recall c2c first tried the colour scheme out on 357025 and 357027, which they later slightly modified and adopted for the entire 357 fleet. WAGN then adopted the colour scheme as well.

I am a cynic and I think this re-branding has a lot to do with NE trying to hold onto this franchise after giving up The East Coast route. I also preferred the old purple/green livery.

Well, it remains to be seen wether they keep the Franchise or not... We know Firstgroup made a punt for the business but withdrew... IT seems that Stagecoach are making moves and internal sources suggest Overground had a look as well.... Strange days indeed.

So are we suggesting the c2c route is now desirable? That's quite a turn around from it's "Misery Line" days!!!.......

It's certainly been a desirable alternative during the strikes on National Express East Anglia! Apparently it's also managers thrown in for this week's disruption! Strike or not, it is actually quicker for me to get to East London by catching a bus to Basildon than going from Wickford, Wickford is 95 minutes, whereas Basildon I can comfortably do it in 50!

C2C offer one of the best services I have ever used in Britain. Comfortable, punctual and clean. But the best thing is, they apologise when the train will be 1-2 mins late as opposed to 10-20 mins late as with some other franchises.

Just goes to show what some decent kit, a bit of investment and better management can do... I would think that if Stagecoach take it over the old 'L,T & S' brand will reappear, possibly 'LTS Trains' or somesuch. What if Boris takes it on? Will it be 'Overground outer?' Outer overground?... Or give the 357s third rail kit & run 'em on the District and call it Outeroverunderground?
:oD
Seems strange that in all the modernisation thats gone on on the LT&S, over the fence in Shoeburyness there are still class 302 vehicles...

How would 'Overground' take it over though?
Either:
a) TfL get awarded the powers to be the concessionaire for the LTS franchise so the DfT no longer control the appointment of franchisee, then TfL get the choice of letting LOROL run it or someone else
or
b) LOROL as an independent company bid to run it, as a franchisee appointed by the DfT, which would mean not having to (or being allowed to) run under TfL/Overground branding, but under some other branding that they would decide.
a) seems unlikely but I don't see how realistic/welcome b) would be in TfL's eyes.
Not that I wouldn't like to see them give it a try, that is.

sorry for bump, new picture showing 357 209 outside East Ham depot with it's c2c purple vinyl removed. It reveals the original white with additional purple painted patches, these were added to hide the difficult white areas under the vinyl. An original green buffer cover is revealed too: tinyurl.com/33b89tt
