When for example one of the two branches to West Croydon or Crystal Palace is closed, do the services that start from NXG use the Southbound Platform 1 to return to Dalston or Northbound Platform 5?

The service that would originally go to West Croydon or Crystal Palace would terminate at NXG and return to Dalston Junction from platform 1.

I thought as much, clearly there's enough time for a terminating service to go back to Dalston before the through service arrives.
A bit confusing for Joe Passenger though who has had to get used to using Plat 5 then to go back to Plat 1 for some northbound services.
Incidentally, when the West Croydon branch is closed in a few weeks time on a Sunday, LO are going to run 8tph to Crystal Palace instead apparently.

That shouldnt be much of a problem as trains can reverse in 3 platforms there. Albeit we normally now only use 3 and 5 which are the bays, but can use 4 provided there isnt a southern going through there at the time ? Trying and failing to relate what you've said to my understanding of NXG - it has no bays. On a slightly different tack, is sending LO trains to East Croydon (vice West) an option? What other options are there for the South end of LO/ELLX? |

It would be possible,there are South- to Northbound terminators at East Croydon using P5 though this is a very busy station,and no doubt the paperwork involved makes it prohibitive.
Though it would be exrtremely useful to a lot of people....

Albeit we normally now only use 3 and 5 which are the bays, but can use 4 provided there isnt a southern going through there at the time Southern don't operate the LB to Vic via CP service on Sunday, instead they go to West Croydon on Sundays via Forest Hill. which would explain why they can go to Crystal Palace on Sundays if needed. |

Apparently, as part of the ELL works, TfL made a contribution to the necessary signalling at South Croydon to allow reversal there instead of at East Croydon. This was to give an extra reversal point if West Croydon wasn't available. The Milton Keynes - Croydon Southern services were supposed to run to South Croydon from the May timetable change, but the works had not been finished and so the reversal remains at East Croydon. These trains spend 13+ minutes in the platform if reversing at East Croydon, but only 6 mins if reversing at South Croydon. |

Sorry to be speculating....your original point was clear.....it just occurred to me that this was one of those occasions where the diversion may prove to be "better" than the general service,and which merits a closer look. West Croydon always struck me as being a little "out of the way".....although it is well placed for the Town Centre,the main traffic interchange is,of course,East Croydon. |

Do any LOROL drivers sign for alternative routes in the Croydon area to avoid blocking the line if their proper route is suddenly unavailable?
E.g from Norwood Jct.into Selhurst depot, or from West Croydon round to Selhurst?
Or would they have to wait for a Southern pilotman to come out to their train?

I caught the ELL from NXG during the 1st Sunday Crystal Palace shutdown that the ELL experienced..... CIS in the ticket hall next train P5 to Dalston Junction at 11:40 Posters up since 23/5 showing DJ from P5 and West Croydon / Crystal Palace from P1. CIS on P5 11:39 to London Bridge due 11:39 10:50 to Dalston Junction due 11:40 11:20 to Dalston Junction due 11:41 The 11:39 came and went, the route then cleared for London Bridge again. The P5 CIS now shows 11:50 to Dalston Junction as the next train. PA at 11:47 announcing the next DJ train will leave from P1. Rush over to P1. Passengers on P2 asking if the train now in P1 will be going to Forest Hill. Farce. 0/10 Simon |
