Well the inset is the old Liverpool "floating" landing stage looking downstream towards Rock Ferry and Birkenhead Cattery +1 Mersey Ferries terminal after it sank at the start of 2006. The picture looks 2007-ish.

You have the background correct (although not the time - from memory it was almost exactly 6 months after the sinking) but not the station: (click for a larger version) Background: Sunken Pier Head landing stage, Liverpool [Chris M] (click for a larger version)

You have the background correct (although not the time - from memory it was almost exactly 6 months after the sinking) I've done a bit of digging, the meta-data for the photo gives 2nd July 2006, 12:23. Linked to this, in the background can be seen the legs of Irish Sea Pioneer, which according to AIS data had arrived a few hours before this.

While the date is right, the time may be an hour and a few minutes out as I'm very lax about making sure the clock on my camera is correct (and didn't' always change it for GMT/BST)
