Had a wee trip from Highbury and I to West Croydon today, noticed that the former signal box is being demolished...
Another slice of history gone. I suppose Willesden High Level Jn and Camden Road will be next to face the same ignominy?
Seems really odd that money was spent recladding Dalson box partially a few years ago, and new windows, only for the thing to be pulled apart!

Willesden is being demolished so is Gospel Oak. Oddly Camden seems to be untouched at the moment.

I wasn't aware that Willesden High Level had been decommissioned! Spending money on something is usually the kiss of death on the Railways! Acton Wells Junction and Bollo Lane are still active though. Does anyone know if there are any immediate plans for resignalling those two? Now that most of our liner trains have high boxes on them and the only cleared route south of the WCML is via Oxford our trips via this route will become very few and far between!

Shame about Willesden HL Junction box going... It did seem an interesting box, still retaining its Network SouthEast name board!

Not as far as York IECC is from New Pudsey (the fringe with Mill Lane Jct, Bradford) though; such is the way of modern signalling.

How far is that? 60 - 80 miles?
Over in Ireland there is one main control "CTC" centre in Connolly with some other smaller panels aka Athlone, Greystones, Clonsilla & Heuston . The furthest reach of the CTC empire is Tralee, 210 miles by rail from Connolly.

Just like to add that Dalston Western Junction and Willesden High Level Junction boxes are now virtually gone and i think by the start of next week they will have disapeared altogether. Gospel Oak has had the top part of the box gone but some form of roofing has been added which looks like this part may stay for some time. Nothing been done to Camden Road yet.

I think Camden Road will be a little harder to get rid of, as its location is atop a viaduct over a busy road!
Shame about Willesden HL Jct going. Gospel Oak was an 80's creation as the original was destroyed in a fire. Upper Holloway is similar to Gospel Oak, being a portakabin type affair.
Highly likely that there is electrical equipment in the box underneath the top half of Gospel Oak box. Maybe it'll get adapted instead of complete replacement to one of those metal boxes surrounded by 12ft high spiked metal fence!

last time I was in GO Box was when a 117 DMU derailed one bogie on the bay road .....(1997 or so) - no loss there compared to the original which burnt down.
Camden Rd and Willesden had some history though ..good and bad !

I detect a story, do tell. I suppose Willesden would have fallen down soon anyway, as it did lean a bit!
Sad to see these bits of history go.

Dalston Western Junction & Willesden High level Junction boxes are no more. Just a couple of bricks is about all that remains of these two.

So Upminster and Liverpool St cover from Camden Road to Stratford?

I thought Liverpool Street only covered as far as Hackney Downs / Bow Junction?
