Indeed, this is the new 'Connect' antenna. The cab is also fitted with the Connect handset and control panel, although this is covered up at present.

I assume that this is going to be rolled out to all to all D78's be they refurbished or not...... What is it meant to achieve over and above the existing radio system? Ok this is from a thinky non LUL staff member, but what is 'Connect'...

Ok this is from a thinky non LUL staff member, but what is 'Connect'... It is the dogs testicles, it is the be all and end all, it is the best thing since sliced bread etc., etc., etc. Oh - and it may work ;D ;D The THEORY is that it is digital based, using TETRA, and therefore should be more reliable and less prone to interference from minicab firms etc It is also supposed to allow communication between anyone on the system, and allows you to patch into the LUL auto phone system, although this will have to be authorised by a manager, to prevent naughty drivers talking to everyone whilst driving There are lots more bells and whistles which will make it so wonderful - I just can't wait until it is installed which is slated for September 2001, er 2002, sorry 2004, I mean the end of 2005, perhaps the middle of 2006, how about 2007?

We won't be able to read the DVA screen on the C stock without standing up Is that unit in service now? And is the handset below the Connect box a relocated PA/Cab-to-cab handset?

Er... where's the DVA gone? It's gone here! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Looks like the madmen have been around again dunnit? In the picture there is a panel with buttons on the car corner pillar. That panel has two blank blue spaces (where the rate switch is)which were left that way for future mod's etc. When I was about they would have taken the blanks out and put the new stuff in it's place and there are cable pipes in the pillar too. That would have seved the cost of moving the kit and a new cable run. Then they moan about costs.

Surprisingly the DVA is readable- just. I sit with the seat in the highest position and i can just reach the top row of buttons whilst seated. I really feel for our shorter trainops who will need arm extensions to operate the thing. I know where I can get hold of a rack. I wonder if the London Dungeons will let LUL borrow it?!
