Today and tomorrow, eastbound and westbound locals are being used (as well as the fasts) between Barons Court and Northfields, and this includes the test track at South Ealing as well. Trains routed to the locals (10 to 15 min frequency) are calling additionally at Ravenscourt Park, Stamford Brook, Turnham Green and Chiswick Park. The 'fast' services are also calling additionally at Turnham Green.

I managed to do this both ways this morning. If you are going westbound, then it seems that the Northfields trains will call at all stations.

It has been so many years since I went over the EB Local at Northfields....the track alway seemed to have a 'clackety-clack' sound as though there were rail joints. The highlight is the 'tunnel' under the EB DR/Picc by Ealing Common Depot. The detination light boxes at Hammersmith DR WB used to have 'PICCADILLY LINE' and did not state any Picc destinations. I am not sure if the EB ones had any Picc destinations.

I'm pretty sure the eastbound local is jointed bull head track all the way from Northfields to Acton Town. Can be a bit deceptive when you are listening out for wheel flats after carrying out a wet rail emergency brake application on test!

Dan

The thought of WB (and EB) locals fills me with glee, there's so many stations I've never stopped at on the Picc, just watching and waving past the slow Districts at the various places down that stretch.
Does beg the question though, drivers won't be trained on the locals will they? Aside from emergency timetables that is... My time as a bus driver always had various oddments when training on a new route, and stops always come up a lot faster than you appreciate, despite you knowing where they are. Stop a dozen times, and you know where to brake, do it first time, and you're about to have a slight of egg on your face.

Regards, Dan I'm not sure that is correct although I stand to be corrected, my recollection is that all four tracks between South Ealing and just east of Ealing Common depot is of the long welded variety with six hole fishplates and plastic bonded blockjoints.

I was sure that the EB Local had jointed track in one section....the trains used to have the 'clackety-clack' that otherwise you only experienced on the main line at the time. The last time that I recall I went down the route was during the mid-day period in August 1979 when the EB Fast was being used as a test track by Sarah on brake block test duties.

My training was a trip both ways at the front of a District line train. In five years as a driver I have probably travelled along the local maybe five times, if that. There are a couple of signals to be wary of, namely the starters at Ravenscourt Park as they are approach controlled, but you do pick up a fair idea of where they all are just from traversing the fast. This weekends timetable gives a lot of time to travel down the local so I would imagine most drivers are just taking it steady.

Yep it's certainly bullhead and it's been there a long time, the six hole fishplates and blockjoints are quite old and different to other parts of the Picc.

How annoying, I hadn't realised that the service on the slow lines continued past Acton Town, but very much enjoyed my journey from Chiswick Park yesterday. Is this timetable planned to run again in the future?
