It has awful flats on car 5235. Looks likely to be pulled at some stage for tyre turning.

How are the RAT and the Chiltern RHTT co-ordinated?
I was at Moor Park on Friday 7th October to get some shots of the Chiltern RHTT.
At 1557 the RAT came south on the main followed after a Chiltern train by the RHTT jetting away at 1618. Just as I was crossing to the local platforms at 1621 the RAT headed north on the main after a reversal at Harrow I presume.
Now I don't suppose the RAT was laying sandite for it to be jetted straight off again.
Wouldn't it be better for it to have followed the RHTT southbound?

Generally the 2 are timetabled not to clash, however this is a positioning move for our RAT, and although it may lay sandite, as you have witnessed, the NR Jetting Train follows around 20-30 minutes later.
The southbound between Amersham and Rickmansworth gets a further dose of sandite around 1700, and we can, if required, arrange additional trips.

Has it done the northbound local line or come off the Watford branch reversing at Rickmansworth to be coming south?

Thats made me think, you could get four A stocks between 09:48 and 10:19, next to eachother on a monday afternoon if you go to the roadbridge at Northwood where people usually get photographs of the scrap move

That's a long day for 5234. Will this be taking turns with the other train 5110 when it's ready? Generally, this is a typical day for 1 RAT. Opportunities exist for re-filling of tanks and, if available, swapping whole trains. It looks a lot, but it's still far shorter than a full-on passenger service day.

Do you mean from left to right : Northbound Local > Southbound Local > RAT > Scrap Siding. Don't forget that for suitable donations to my fund, maybe the fast lines could be added - giving a total of 6 train ;D ;D

Just a curious question, why does the RAT need five cars?

I suppose 2 cars on the front and rear for driving & motoring, one for motoring only and a trailer with some special equipment?

On previous years it didn't need five cars it ran as a four car set with the 'A' end trailer removed and stored. The reason for this was to increase power by not carrying around an extra unpowered trailer.
The current formation is DM-T-RAC-T-DM. As far as I know, the RAC still carries a working compressor. If, however, only a 4 car train is used, a compressor failure would lead to the unit having to leave service. At least with 3 comps in the unit it is more reliable.
The other issue is there is not much space at Neasden so it was better to carry the extra trailer around rather than store/scrap it!
The driving cars 5234 and 5235 the only powered cars in the unit. These carry the 4 motors, motor alt etc. The remaining cars 6234, 6235 and 6036 are trailers. They are not powered but carry other equipment such as compressors, air resivoir etc.
6036 in addition has been modified to carry sanding hoppers and despensors.
