Gents I'm been visiting my parents in Hornchurch for a couple of days (well it was Mothering Sunday yesterday so felt I had to at least show my face ;D ;D ;D). I don't know how many of you visit the far east of the District Line (dodging the bricks & bottles thrown by chavs ), but have hopped on/off of trains at Upminster twice today the canopy flashing above platform 4 is still bouncing and flapping in the wind. Its been doing this for as long as I can remember & today (being very windy) its been on top form making one hell of a noise. Has LU either not noticed (can't believe that for a second), gone deaf due to the noise it makes or don't have the money to make good. I'm not saying that its not safe (its been flapping away in the wind for many a long year), but it doesn't exactly fill me with confidence in relation to investment in other LU infrastructure. Any opinions from anyone whose heard it or any info about if/when it'll be looked at..... should it be repaired it'll be conspicuous by its absence... ;D Regards Christopher

I've got to admit it's quite scarey when it really gets going. As you say its been like it since renewal. Sadly it's owned and maintained by C2C so I don't suppose it'll get dealt with until we get a convertable canopy.

Upminster is an NR station. LU probably doesn't care one way or another about the state of the station structures.

I'll amend my sentence accordingly..... Ah-hem but it doesn't exactly fill me with confidence in relation to investment in other C2C or National Rail infrastructure. ;D ;D

Upminster station is undergoing quite a transformation at the moment, though how far they're going with it remains to be seen. I like the new help points they're putting in - very LU Should benefit the customers as they're readily identifiable - infact Barking is having them fitted too. I'll get a pic of one tomorrow.

Hmmm, damned canopy invariably makes me jump as it unexpectedly makes one hell of a racket. Also several examples of the nosing stones to our platforms coming adrift LUL managers keep removing the tread grips to the eastern staircase as they become a trip hazard, their replacement or refit by c2c seems a bit hit n miss. C2C recently removed their helpful eastbound describer screens; one of which showed the next train stopping pattern in full alternately with the next hour or so's trains from that platform, the other showing the next hour or so's departures from all NR platforms. Replacing it with a dot matrix showing the destination of the next three trains on the platform with scrolling via points. far less useful and resulting in my keep being bombarded with questions from their passengers which i can't answer without seeing the removed old screens Station maintenance/upgrade National Express (c2c) style leaving quiet a bit to be desired They have installed a very detailed CCTV set up though ...with ooodles of cameras.

I'd almost forgotten about this - here's a pic of one (i've seen them at other NR stations in the London area, so it's obviously a style that all TOC's are adopting):
