Has anyone noticed this, today I seen 10 of them outside destination boards (sorry don't know there name) on the S stock what were compleley blank. One of them looked like it has water it it and was flashing in all different places. This has not happened on the 09 stock although a couple of them are extremely dim now but they still work.
Bombardier really should rethink the designs I these, or completeley remove them. They look stupid going around blank, when tfl are going round advertising the
Like they are some sort of fantasy come true, and I don't think they can be fixed maybe I might be wrong?? I know also that it was not turned of because all the other boards on the train were on. Also remember that this was on 10 seperate trains !!

Surely they can be fixed or either replaced. However they should not be broken this early on! If the S Stock are going to last as long as the A Stock, things like this should not be happening yet!!!  |

I'm sure the A stock had similar teething troubles when it was first introduced! The side displays will probably want some slight modification, and will then be good for a long life. |

To be honest train washes are the more difficult scenario for water tightness, where water is sprayed at various angles at a higher pressure.

Yes, it's like wind driven rain on buildings - can be nasty!
Bombardier should be able to build side displays correctly. The Electrostar range has them.

Why are the displays not on the inside like the Electrostar? Surely when being built the designers should have realised that they would not be waterproof and put them in appropriate places. Also less chance then on people vandalising them! |

That's a good point. Their other products seem to have them on the inside, why did they try and think outside the box!!
I've also seen a few trains with either the wrong destination on or none at all! Could this be connected?

I was on a train last Friday and the boards displayed Harrow on the Hill but it was in fact an Uxbridge train from Baker Street. The DVAs were also suggesting that the next station was Hillingdon instead of Finchley Road. I don't know if this was either train error or driver error? I don't think this is a linked to faulty boards however |

That's really bad especially for tourists. That sounds like a train error. This is because on the 2009 stock some drivers forget to change the destenation display,( eg the train is showing walthamstow but actually heading to brixton) the train will say destination walthamstow but the next station feature will still be working. The next station feature is changed automatically when the trains next station annoucement is played, however this mean that the display on the outside will allways be one station ahead than the annoucements. So this sounds like yet another problem with the s stock.

the next station announcement on the S stock does seem somewhat strange at the beginning of this clip,before correcting later.

I'd be surprised if this were the case, since the customer information system does not have a clue where it is when travelling southbound with a northbound destination and vice versa. All you get when it is lost is "this is a victoria line train to..." |

Correct me if I am wrong, but ATO lines i.e. Vic. Central & Jub. have on-train position measurement sensors that measure to the nearest metre of distance.
A handy solution to keep the passenger displays correctly shown.

The one's on the DLR change just as the train is exiting the station before the terminus station. |

Maybe because the trains next trip could be anything, so it's easier to have the driver set it? The DLR, oddly enough, runs to timetable, and the trains are a lot less frequent. Just my theory. Or maybe because it was built to have it done like that? Then they could do that on LU, seeing as it's not a super duper driverless thing.
Speaking of announcments, my Met train this morning decided to tell us good people in the front car that 'All doors in this car will not open. Please use other doors' At King's Cross or someplace random.

I wouldn't be confident of a quick fix - we're still waiting for Bombardier to sort out the public address system on the 2009 stock for driver announcements. Half of them are inaudible!
