There is an electrified line that runs alongside the dlr from Stratford, pudding mill lane then as the dlr goes single track, this line also curves left. I have never sen trains run on it? Where does it go and what are the stations on the route?

This is the (now) empty stock connection with the line to Fenchurch Street.
On 5/11/49 the Stratford – Fenchurch Street service was withdrawn and Bow Road ER station closed.

This is the connection to Fenchurch Street. The LTS line branches off it at Gas Factory junction (between Limehouse and West Ham).

I have seen this used by the leaf clearing (or weed killing) train to access c2c tracks. There's a loop at Gas Factory Junction, allowing trains from Stratford to reverse toward Barking without travelling into Fenchurch St.

Does anyone know of good web sites with photos of the gas junction and lines etc?

Passenger trains have used this route during emergencies and weekend engineering work.

I've seen trains stationary there for long periods and wondered whether a loop or siding existed. Otherwise they would be blocking the mainline.

Yes, on Google Earth find where the c2c line crosses Bow Common Lane. You'll see three tracks, the loop is the one to the south east. I have a working timetable of some years ago. This shows one empty train leaving Fenchurch St at the end of the morning rush hour taking this track to Stratford then continuing to Barking and East Ham Depot, presumably a rusty rail move. Also shown is an empty passenger train arriving on the loop at the start of the evening rush hour, waiting there until the end of rush hour, then returning to East Ham Depot, presumably to substitute for any train failing to arrive. Don't know whether either of these runs now-a-days.

There are Two ECS movements from East ham depot to and from Fenchurch street that operate via bow junction and the gas factory lines. (Excuse the network rail headcodes ) 5S06 09.48 Fenchurch street to Shoeburyness on the gas factory line from 09.53-09.59 5R98 14.58 East ham depot to Fenchurch street on the gas factory line from 15.23-15.32 Also there is a daily 'Route learner' for c2c staff which does various odd movements between liverpool street and ilford depot and uses the gas factory line between 12.04-12.08 (to gas factory loop) and 13.10-13.19 (to pitsea).

The recent 'Thames Tidal' railtour in March with the Hastings Diesel covered this line, doing some track 'bashing' over a variety of routes. It was a double track connection until the DLR came along, but it is a strategic connection to cover occasional operating contingencies too.

We went from Barking to Stratford via Woodgrange Park and then on to Fenchurch Street via this line and then made our way out to Shoeburyness via the usual route of West Ham. Also covered the Dudding Hill line in both directions as well as the link from the Midland Main Line to the GOBLIN. Great day it was too.
