We're now into double figures in November which means 45 days until Christmas Day. The majority of forum members can now panic, those who do celebrate it can sit back smugly and consider the ethics of the John Lewis penguin. Anyway, enough of that, lets quiz! Question: (click for a larger version) <<edit: Oh yeah, one main one inset>>

Not sure if it's the insert or the main but the wheels and chains are a horizontal hydraulic jigger possibly in the London Docks (E or W India?) for opening a lock gate or possibly for raising a bridge. Can't be more precise - the one I remember seeing some time ago was I recall in a depression below ground level. So I regret not a points winning answer.

The station: Canonbury? Those definitely look like Overground ticket machines

You should have a point for the Jigger. The 'Armstrong Multiplying Sheave', to give it its formal title, is one of my favourite devices, yet I failed to recognise it in the confusion. Is the metal gantry actually part of the main picture?

Yes, I'm going to give westville13 the points for the inset. It is located at Millwall slipway, and the Millwall dock was amalgamated with the West India Docks. The images in Colin's post above are unmodified, so yes the metal gantry is really located outside Canonbury station. I can't though tell you why.

A glance at Streetview suggests that the "gantry" is much less substantial than it appears in this photograph. It is just a framework for supporting the plants in the flower beds outside the station building.
