One thing that gets me, if they'd just look through the glass in front of them they would see a wall. Why do they still think they can get off there? Not to mention the clear signs on the doors which say that those doors may not open at some stations.

It would've been a heck of a lot better if the announcements were carriage specific. It would be a nightmare if SDO will occur at Highbury & Islington or Willesden Junction.

I recently read/saw an image in RAIL magazine showing a 5car unit with the extra carriage in a 'Gift' wrap. Just wondering if this is being used on all the extra carriages or if it was just to mark the first? Also how many 5-car units are we up to now!?

Just wondering if this is being used on all the extra carriages or if it was just to mark the first? Also how many 5-car units are we up to now!? I am happy to be corrected but I think the special wrap on the side is on the first one only. I caught a 5 car train the other day but it only had a sign on the front but not on the 5th car itself. I also saw another 5 car train but it had no signage or wrap at all - I just had to count the carriages as it arrived and then spotted the bogies and shoe gear on the new carriage looking very shiny. On the train I caught the easiest way to spot the new carriage was the seat moquette colour depth - no wear yet!

There are actually 4 units out there now, although I'm pretty positive there's 5.
135 has the gift wrap on it and "5 car train" sticker on each end. 137 just has the "5 car train" sticker on each end. 141 and 142 have no indication on it at all. (can't remember if 139 is a 5 car or not, I'm sure it is).
The easiest way is to look at the carriage number. On the outside if the number is "384**" it's a new carriage. Internally the number can be seen to the right of the PIS display at each end.
136 was supposed to be the second unit done, however due to the 5th carriage arriving the wrong way round, it is currently still sat lonely and detached in NXG depot.

Cheers redbond... They don't tell us NLL drivers much.. All we heard was that all 5 car works had been suspended until they sort out the software..

That's very odd as no such comment has been heard over here. Further to earlier comment, 141 has stickers on each end and 139 is a 5 car. A carriage has been brought in this morning for the 6th one to be attached.

Thanks redbond! I need to find some time for some aimless travel and hopefully spot one! With 5 out there now you shouldn't have to wait too long to spot one. Not before time, with all the congestion at London Bridge I think LO services will become even busier for some considerable time.

Well, it is "London Overground", maybe they're thinking of extending the monorail concept and will have trains hanging upside down from a railway in the sky

Eight 5-car trains in service now, 135 to 142. As the reconfiguration of the depot is pretty much done I've heard that they should be able to knock out 2 a week very shortly.

Travelled from Shadwell to Canada Water the other evening and got a 5 car. Hardly ever on the LO so was glad to get one, though we had a lot of bother at Wapping (can't 100% remember if it was Wapping, could have been Rotherhithe).
Poor driver could not release any doors - in the end a couple relesed towards the centre of the train, but that was it: could not see if the SDO ended up working correctly from where I was in the leading carriage, but there was much confusion on the platform and a rush to the one or two doors that had released.
Was happy the SDO behaved itself after that! I have to say the anouncements are a bit full on for my liking given the short distances - but then I have always found LO to be a bit anouncement heavy.

Try listening to them continuously for 7 hours a day! What with the SDO ones in addition to the ones about ensuring you have paid to travel there is barely a free moment. I hope they install the suppression modification in the cab shortly!

It's very irritating. The announcement hasn't even finished by the time I stop at Whitechapel. I usually do an announcement after leaving Shadwell just so people have extra time to move along. However, due to the constant inane rubbish spewed out, I often find that my announcement is ignored and when I put the internal CCTV on, there's still people looking around and then doing a last minute 1 carriage sprint!
The whole PIS system needs an overhaul. On the 5 cars, they've added a "please keep your luggage with you at all times..." message at Surrey Quays between opening the doors and "this is a London Overground service to...". People don't take notice enough as it is and will quickly jump off when they hear "change here for London Overground services to New Cross and Clapham Junction", thinking they're on the wrong train. They then quickly jump back on when they hear it's actually for Croydon or Palace.
Do passengers constantly need to be reminded that they must have a valid Oyster card, or to remember to keep their luggage with them at all times?
Not to mention that at the moment we can't override the automatic PIS to do a manual announcement when they're playing, it's become such an issue that we've had a notice up telling us how to override by using the GSM-R radio!

I travelled on a 5-car set for the first time Clapham Junction to Highbury & Islington. The SDO announcements seemed very clear. However, something strange happened at Wapping. I was in the last 5th carriage by the driver`s door. The SDO announcement said no doors would open in the last carriage (which was announced as 5 of 5). However when the doors were activated, only the last door were de-activated, like at Canada Water, and one door did open in the last carriage. Although I cannot be sure, I believe there was then an automated announcement that only the last door would be de-activated, not all in the last carriage. It all seems strange.

Heading northbound, the last set of doors are locked out, southbound, the last carriage is locked out. The announcements weren't done correctly when repeating as they do something along the lines of this...
"The next station is Wapping. Would customers please note that due to a short platform, the rear doors of the last coach will not open. Please ensure you are traveling in the correct part of the train. Would customers please note that you can only alight from the front 4 coaches, as this station has a short platform....this is coach number....."
The same happens on both platforms at Canada Water.

Sounds like a bit of an overhaul is needed on the announcements - I can't imagine how annoying it must be day in day out for the punters, never mind drivers!

Conversion is happening quite quickly now. 152 went in last night and I saw the carriage for 153 being delivered. All the '1' series should be done by end of the month, then will start on the '2' series.

The 1 series or subclass, relates to the current DC stock that operates solely on the ELL; With the 2 series or subclass operating on the NLL,WLL, DC and ELL *
