I'm gonna say D is Russell Square.
A looks very much like Covent Garden, though I can't be sure the design is unique.

This is probably too simplistic, but is B the odd one out as all the others are Yerkes stations?

A . Covent Garden, B Aldgate, D Russell Square, C is Goodge Street, would say B Aldgate is odd one out as has no lifts.

Location A: Covent Garden - Way Out cartouche [ rincew1nd] (click for a larger version) Location B: Mansion House - view from westbound District Line train [Anonymous] (click for a larger version) Location C: Goodge Street - view from bus [ Dom K] (click for a larger version) Location D: Russell Square - passage from westbound platform to lifts [Chris M] (click for a larger version) bigvern despite getting the station wrong, you have got the reason why B is the odd one out correct! Mansion House doesn't have any lifts. However, there are two things that link the other three stations, and one of those things also links Mansion House - what are they?

I've tried that 3 are Yerkes stations. How about none are on the street or at the place after which they are named. Mansion House is the only one that was unelectrified when it was opened.
Is Goodge Street the only one of the four that has had its name changed?

It's nothing to do with names or electrification. The architect is tangentially relevant, but not very. Think more around Bigvern's suggestion.

If there is, it isn't the link I'm looking for.

They were all Yerkes-owned stations, although only three were on the Yerkes tubes.

Have they all been closed for over a year, the other three being for lift replacements/renewals, Mansion House for the new entrance?

That's the cause of it being the odd one out, rather than the reason itself

The other three rely on lifts & have no escalators, Mansion House relies on escalators.

Is the thing that connects Mansion House with the other three the 1897 deep-level plan? So lifts were planned for Mansion House under that, but never installed, whereas the other 3 never had plans for escalators.

Mansion House relies on escalators. I've never noticed any escalators (or lifts for that matter) at Mansion House. So is it simply that they all have lifts, except MH which only has fixed stairs?

Sorry I used the term Yerkes station to mean a Yerkes tube station with proper and exciting tiles and a Leslie Green-designed station building.
I know that he bought the MDR as well.

Got it. answer: These are zone 1 stations with no escalators, Mansion House is the only one that also doesn't have any lifts
