The main for A is Embankment, and the inset for D is Preston Road.

I think the link is stations that have changed name or moved slightly. Aldersgate>Barbican, Charing Cross>Embankment. I am sure location D is in the area of Tower Hlll
I am wrong, Location D is Marsh Wall South Quay

Station pictures taken from the landmark they are named after. Correctamundo! These are all images of a station taken from the place the station is named after. All that remains to get is A1.

It may help to know that the insets/backgrounds on this question also all follow a pattern

Would that be a pattern of things seen from the station of that name? (i.e. the reverse of the main link). Not that it's helping me work out where it is...

Would that be a pattern of things seen from the station of that name? (i.e. the reverse of the main link). Yep. With the exception of roads/streets there are surprisingly few where you can see between the two.

I spent a lot of time researching this question, yes - mainly with maps and Google Street View but some prior knowledge.
The Langdon Park and Embankment photos were taken specifically for this question (although the Embankment photo was taken as I passed on the Shine Night Walk so it wasn't a special trip). The Monument photo I've had in stock from Rincew1nd for possibly a couple of years, and the Preston Road photo I took when I was nearby recently to take a different photo (that will appear later this month). Inset A1 was also a special trip to photograph; the Barbican and South Quay photos I took for completely different reasons in July and December last year and I think are the only two photos I already have that work for this! I have some from Heron Quays that almost but not quite work, and I thought I had one for West India Quay but I don't quite.
I don't count ones named after areas/settlements as that's too generic (what exactly is "Hammersmith"?)
As for other stations I know I could have used: Barbican, South Quay, and whatever is featured in A1 obviously; most (but not all) ones named after roads/streets/lanes/etc, Oxford Circus, Beckton Park, Shepherd's Bush Market, Royal Albert*, Royal Victoria*, King George V*, Heathrow T5, Watford High Street, Swiss Cottage,
*Requires a boat
Ones I'm not sure about: Charing Cross, Heathrow T4 (depends where you count the terminal as starting), Russell Square (may require climbing a tree), Bow Church (may be possible from the churchyard in winter, too many trees at this time of year), Depford Bridge (depends if you consider it a specific bridge or an area), Pontoon Dock (would require a boat, but I'm not sure if you can see the dock from the station or vv),

Deptford Bridge (depends if you consider it a specific bridge or an area), It is the bridge which carries Watling Street (the A2) across the Ravens Bourne, immediately to the west of the DLR station, and is the site of the Battle of Deptford Bridge in 1497 where Henry VII put down the Cornish Uprising as they tried to march on London from a camp on Blackheath. (yes, I know Deptford isn't on the direct route from Cornwall to London!) The Ravens Bourne becomes Deptford Creek a few yards downstream of the bridge As the actual bridge is almost directly under the northbound platform of the DLR station you may have to lean over quite a long way to see it from the platform. here's a view of the river from the paltform

In a fit of inspiration this morning I have identified the remaining photograph (with assistance from Google) as being of Martello Terrace... But there isn't a station of the same name... ;-)
Anyway the photograph is taken from London Fields station...
