Why is it that in the S stock, there is such a difference between the quality of announcements on the DVA compared to a manual announcement? Often, it is impossible to hear when the driver is speaking. Sometimes, you can only hear every other word! Are LU doing anything about this? It isn't the driver at fault, because D stock announcement, although a little quiet, are perfectly audible.

I agree. I very rarely hear a clear manual announcement on S Stock trains.

The same is true on the 09 stock. Automated announcements are very clear but driver PAs are very muffled and low

The problem is the way the drivers use the handset, it is necessary to place your mouth much closer to the handset on an S stock, the benefits of this are that this avoids background noise such as the train radio, and gives a much cleared announcement if done correctly, the drawback is that if your mouth is 3 inches from the speaker then a garbled message is broadcast. It is a training issue.
Bombardier didn't get everything wrong.

I find that this is a problem that extends beyond LU. On my mainline commute some drivers can be understood perfectly, others mumble & you can't hear a word that's being said.
