Went to Edgware Road today. So planned to get on the Central line from Hainault and change at Mile End for the H&C. Got off at Mile End and look at the destination board and the next H&C train is the third train in (named as Hammersmith via Kings X) About a minute later, that changes to Check Front of Train and then a minute later it disappears of the board and no more H&C trains are showing up. So jumped back on the Central and went to Liverpool Street and changed to Circle which had no problems with.
Has anything like this ever happened to anyone else?

I’m surprised when it does work correctly at Mile End ATM it doesn’t help when the train pulls in and the displays aren’t working.

At my local, Putney Bridge, the destination boards are basically never to be relied upon. In the past week or so after the early August closedown of the district core, its been worse than normal. Every train has been showing Edgware Road on the eastbound. This afternoon at circa 145pm it was showing 'Mansinn House' as the destination for an approaching Edgware Road train. Never seen that before.

It's a disgrace the way that LU allow customers to be misled by the station train describers.
It seems that all the staff that post here have an extremely relaxed attitude to said customers being given false information, but it really points to a deep malaise within the management of LU that they are perfectly happy for these things to go uncorrected for years, and in some cases decades.

This is one of the reasons among many why 4LM can't come soon enough. Trains Describers on the SSR under legacy signalling draw from a plethora of different systems, often non-standard, of limited capability/compatibility and rapidly reaching obsolescence in some cases. Whilst I'm sure modifications could be done to make the existing systems better, the continuing fluidity of the 4LM programme even as areas start to be commissioned means the scope of any interim patch would be severely impaired in lieu of the longer term solution that is hovering ever larger on the horizon.
Where improvements are feasible, this has been done. The Uxbridge Branch got greater TD functionality circa 2016 utilising assets that had been installed up to a decade previously. System limitations mean that full service info can't be displayed on there. Not ideal, but it's a step in the right direction. The infamous stretch between Hammersmith - Paddington (Suburban) has seen vast improvements to TD info as have terminal platforms at Moorgate and Aldgate with the commissioning of ATO in those areas. Stations on the District line that have been descoped from 4LM are having an alternative package of improvements drawn up.
For years, 'Check Front of Train' was the default modus operandi for passengers on large parts of the SSR and it still is in a fair few places. If anything, this highlights the importance of working Customer Info Systems on trains as the recent 'blanks' across the S stock fleet have shown.

I have to admit that the District eastbound at Hammersmith that I was forever whining about has improved beyond all recognition since re-signalling. It now tells you which train is coming next and how long it will be, rather than the randomly appearing Upminster train that never came.

The Hammersmith area hasn’t yet been re-signalled, only thing in recent years has been transfer of control to the Piccadilly Line at South Kensington.

I don't really care why they've got it right now. The fact is they have, and thus LU no longer continually and knowingly give out completely false information to passengers which was a disgraceful way to behave.

The destination boards are always playing up on the Circle, District and H&C lines. I connect to the station WiFi and use the TfL go app.. It shows all the trains in order of line and is way better than the destination board..
