I apologise because I can see this has been partially covered in other threads, but I was wandering if anyone has any recordings of VERA. This was the announcement system used until around 2000 on the C Stock, 1972 Stock and possibly 1969 Stock (although that seems to be contended). The only example I've been able to find is this video but it's incredibly muffled.
I can work out what's being said but I can't really make out cadence and tone that well and I'm curious just how disjointed the system sounds. It also just seems to be a bit of LU history that isn't really touched upon that often, at least in the form of archived media, which makes me even more curious about it. Thanks in advance and sorry if this is in the wrong section.

It was very disjointed.
“This is a … Hammersmith and City … line train to … Hammersmith”.
It was, however, very clear and well enunciated, so very easy to hear and understand. The pauses may have even helped.
The way the message was broken up was indicative of the cost of memory when the system was developed.

I don't have recordings, but this audio only system was fitted to C stock, Bakerloo 72TS and Vic line 67TS. Equipment by Focon of Denmark. As far as I know the 72TS still has this equipment at least for now. So you could ride trains to get recordings. Some or all announcements may have been re-recorded over the years.
Or was 'VERA' some system prior to that? Trial fit perhaps?

I'm not sure if the actual system itself is different or not but the announcements were changed to Emma Clarke in the early 2000's on all of those trains. The C stock also had them changed again in 2011 to match the recordings used on the S-Stock. Unfortunately this means that, as far as I'm aware, there are no actual sources for the announcements outside of archival footage and people's own recordings.

I must admit, when I first saw the title of this thread I thought of a different VERA - the Volks Electric Railway Association!

There were also VERA (I am not sure why it is always capitalised - is it meant to stand for something, or is her name actally 'Vera'?) recordings in several lifts, including Regents Park. There is a clip on YouTube in which you can hear her Regents Park lift recording (her explaining how to get to London Zoo etc.): acro - I notice in another thread you site the following website: www.haltestellenansage.de/ansagen/u/london/london_en.htm This website used to the have the VERA Bakerloo line recordings, but it didn't have the Victoria line ones, as that just had the Emma Clarke files. I have the audio files saved on a memory stick somewhere (I think!) - PM me and I can arrange to send them to you. The C stock also had them changed again in 2011 to match the recordings used on the S-Stock. 2009 actually - when the Circle line was extended to Hammersmith.
