When the District Line trains sit at Earl's Court the doors seem to close after a while (automatically?) but they are still openable with a press of the button.
I do not see this happen at any other station, why does it happen at Earl's Court? Also at Earl's Court even on an empty train the doors will close when about to depart, immediately open again and then close again. Is this some software quirk?

S Stock have an auto-door closure of 45seconds, more noticeable at longer station stops. This can be inhibited by the driver. The doors reopening before departure would be a kind driver alerting the imminent departure.

Why Earl's Court? Probably/partly as it's a place to hold trains for their scheduled departure (if the train arrives early), at most other stations the train might not have that 45 seconds.
(I'm not coming up with anything useful about station dwell times at the moment, but at most stations it's probably under 45 sec.)

It certainly isn’t just Earl’s Court. It regularly happens at, e.g. Hammersmith and Edgware Road.

This is an S Stock feature to keep the warm air in the train (winter) or cool air in the train (summer). It requires the train to be stopped at a station with its doors open for a preset time period* before being invoked.
*I cant remember, either 30 or 45 seconds

Pretty well all modern suburban and metro trains with powerful HVAC do this for the reasons stated. There seems to be an undercurrent of opinion with some passengers that because older LUL trains don't, the newer ones shouldn't!

Don't the 73 stock have a function whereby only one/few doors per car are open?

Don't the 73 stock have a function whereby only one/few doors per car are open? That's selective close. As the name suggests, it's used once all the doors have been opened and closes all the passenger doors bar one on each car.
