PLU I thought we had done away with using unqualified initials which are meaningless to some readers Correct, but given this is a quote, we can't control how others use them!

PLU I thought we had done away with using unqualified initials which are meaningless to some readers Correct, but given this is a quote, we. Ant control how others use them! I am sorry that I do not understand this response. Perhaps I am out of touch PLU has now been satisfactorily explained. I did not know what it meant, so I felt it was a legitimate question. But this new response from rincewind is one I cannot comprehend. Am I too old and senile for this forum as I only speak English, not "text"? If so, perhaps I should retire

Rincew1nd is saying that the forum staff cannot apply the rules of the forum to text written anywhere other than the forum. The acronym appeared in a quote, the quoted text was written by someone who is (probably) not a forum member for an audience who can be expected to know what "PLU" means. It was thus not a breach of the forum rules. If someone uses an acronym, jargon or indeed any other word or phrase that you don't understand then it is best to just politely enquire and leave judgement about whether the rules of the forum have been breached to the forum staff. Relatedly, if someone doesn't understand something you have said, then just politely explain what you mean without complaint or casting aspersions about the enquirers state of knowledge, intelligence, reading comprehension, or anything else.

Correct, but given this is a quote, we. Ant control how others use them! I am sorry that I do not understand this response. Perhaps I am out of touch? Mea culpa, I made a typographical error which I did not notice in my haste to write a reply. I've now edited my original post, but not your quote of it as otherwise your post would not make any sense.
