Waiting at Loughton station for an eastbound train yesterday evening, the indicator for platform 4 was showing that the next train was due to terminate (as had the previous eastbound train, hence why I was there).
The indicator changed to "See train for destination", as the train was about to pull in so I looked at the front of the train and saw "Newbury Park". The doors opened and the few people on the train got off. I went over to by one of the doors to listen to the on-train announcement to try and find out where the train was going - "This is Loughton, please mind the gap between the train and the platform edge", followed about a minute later with the standard "this is Loughton, where this train terminates" message. After another few minutes we got two cycles of the mind the gap and terminates here messages.
By the time the next non-terminating eastbound train arrived the platform indicators were showing "White City 7 minutes", the passenger doors were wide open, but the driver hadn't changed ends (afact) and nobody had got on the train. There were a few people waiting for a westbound train on platforms 1 and 2 though.
Any ideas what was going on? There had been delays earlier in the day due to signalling problems at Leytonstone, but the message to passengers was "Good service" by this time.
