On a school trip we had to take the train to Wilsden, and the teacher said "you find me a route". Now we could have gone via Baker street on a circle and changed but I told him I was sure to take the Metropolitan was the best way. It was by far! The A stock is wonderful, it feels like a proper train with well sprung seats and a great soundtrack . The seating is great, it is so comfortable, could almost fall asleep on them. And surprisingly for this day and age, the moquette on the seat is actually respectable! The compressor sounds I love and the way they pull away so slowly is 'nice' in a funny kind of way. Also how it builds up speed on the fast sections is great, it must be 50mph. Just a list of what is great about these trains. One of the best contrasts from the 95ts with plastic everywhere. New 's' stock vs 'A' stock, no competition!

Yeah, I agree with what you're saying about the A stock, Rob, but seeing as we haven't really seen a proper prototype of the S stock yet - as it's still being designed, I'd say it's a bit too early to write them off just yet!

I love A-Stock. Was on one in July 2003, heading to Watford, had a bit of light drizzle around Wembley Pk, and this turned into a downpour by Preston Road. We arrived at Northwick Park. on departing, there was the unmistakable sound of wheelspin, the T/Op just left it in full while we were going about 5mph.... I was sitting right behind the T/Op, we passed the 7 car board and there was this huge BANG, which were obviously the Line Breakers tripping out... Lights dimmed, ans we carried on at walking pace for a while, before the T/Op gave a more controlled approach to applying traction!

also another thing I like about the sub-surface line is the fact you can see the trains going the other way and know which line it is on because of the hand rails! also the signals and the beautiful stations.

At least S-stock won't take what seems like half an hour to reach top speed! Better acceleration/decceleration means higher line capacity.

Yup. Beautiful stations ...... hmm..... where? ;D Some though like Hammersmith ( Picc and District ) is very nicely designed IMO, with the roundel on the glass - very nice and professional looking. Not meaning to drag this off topic ( and maybe I should create a new thread in the Circle and H&C board ), but doesn't Great Portland Street strike you as very very dingy and dark, along the eastbound platform especially?? ( Or is it just me? )

Rayners Lane, Uxbridge, they're all beautiful stations....
not keen on Hammer P&D myself, all glass and steel, no design thought there....

Who won the gardens competition? (genuine question)
Even on the tube lines some stations are allright. Highgate is a nice one with the simple green tiles. Same colours as this website!

I like Northwick Park, it's very well cared for and it's very interesting to watch the A60/62s motor past on the fast lines to/from Harrow. Not meaning to drag this off topic ( and maybe I should create a new thread in the Circle and H&C board ), but doesn't Great Portland Street strike you as very very dingy and dark, along the eastbound platform especially?? ( Or is it just me? ) So does Euston Square and Kings Cross St. Pancras. To be honest I don't like any of the stations on the Upper Circle, except Baker Street (Met), the H&C/Circle platforms smell of urine.

Kings cross is completly covered on top, but it is not that dark and grim. The platforms are being refurbished at the moment, with it looking quite grim without many 'ornaments' on the platform. The new concourse and joining between tube lines and sub-surface is nice and wide and some staff were even in there!

95ts plastic? ? How dare yer malign the Northern!!!!! Apart from sweltering in the summer on them [even on the surface] and listening to the cab air con, and the filthy seats, not to mention the sometimes very loud dva, they are perfect!!!

Yes, second that, they are great, like the 95ts accelerating/decelerating.

Don't forget the the 95TS is derated at present. When ATO is installed in a few years, they will have very high performance!

what is the performance compared to a 96ts? They are different because of the bi-polar gates or something like that. Ineresting when ATO arrives on the Jubilee to compare the performance with and without ATO. This will be the first where there will be a decent comparison. How much will running times change i wonder
