I was rather surprised, when travelling southbound on the Met. last Tuesday evening, to hear the train driver announce over the PA system at Harrow-on-the-Hill that the train was booked to have five minutes of dwell time there. Now, 30 seconds I can understand, but five minutes .... ? Maybe a faster timetable could be achieved by tightening-up the existing one - ? The largest stand I can recall from the box sheets at Harrow is an 'f' (3 mins) - that's on one Uxbridge an hour.

711 was running that day IIRC, which I am aware was doing every possible move in the Rickie area!
Also this week we've had 466 IIRC, one of the booked tip-outs at Harrow (inter-peak stabler), running up to Rickie sidings for station staff S stock familiarisation.

No A stock in service for the morning peak today. First weekday with none. Any in the evening?..... 5022 did sneak out on T711, so 1 could be spotted whizzing past! Indeed, a training move from Neasden up the fast to Harrow, onto the main through Platform 1, to Rickmansworth to reverse, back via the main into Harrow platform 6 reversing towards Uxbridge for the sidings.

Stuff is quite often chucked on trains to be delivered. Engineering works posters on last trains is very very common.

It seems difficult to argue with this point. Indeed, how come there are savings? Surely the cost of removing the track must be greater than the cost of including it in the signalling. I'm sure someone will shortly say that points left in will need to be maintained, but I don't understand why they can't just be left permanently scotched & clipped.

I think most people will agree with me when I say, MetControl, can you put A stocks on the Fast services please, and if possible, all 16 trains to be A stocks? Think that'll probably be down to the Depot Duty Managers as opposed to the controller? Thank you by the way, I think you have done a brilliant job in making this timetable with such a short notice And yes, well done as always

To regard a signal as usually clear until you see it at danger seems a bit bizarre to me. You don't. As a driver you always expect the signal ahead to be at danger - (at least I suppose in a two aspect area). The 'usually green' refers to how the signalling actually works, not to how you would treat the signal if you were a driver.

Comment on YouTube says Hampstead, which may be true for the lifts section. Certainly isn't Hampstead, as the lifts there don't have the electronic displays inside - neither do any other traction lifts on the Edgware branch, unless they've changed in the last 3 weeks that I've been on leave!

The train isn't detrained at Kennington so you can just stay on if you really want to. Just be aware that there is no guarantee that you'll be out of the loop quickly if anything happens to the railway, as the train will be classed as empty!

Thanks for those metman!
v52gc ta for both of those, wasn't aware for either!
I know that C Stocks can reverse Liverpool Street East to West off the platform - is it possible for a Met to reverse there via a main line shunt?

Anyone who travels the Northern Edgware branch - is there still one on the disused "staff" platform? There was at the end of last year IIRC when I last looked! There isn't one of the original platform dispenser ones, but yes there is a chocolate and separate drinks vending machine on the staff platform at Golders Green.

Hi all, wondering if someone could help me with a quick request.
I'm looking for a list of reversing points on the Metropolitan line - as in, all possible, including off the platform, (e.g. Moorgate), reversing sidings, (e.g. Amersham), but also Main Line Shunts, (e.g. Platform 6 at Baker Street for an A stock?)
Can't seem to find a list of them on the internet obviously, and couldn't see anything on the LUL intranet either - the junction diagrams show the points but not the locations of the shunt signals / limit of shunt boards.
Thanks in advance all.

Does anyone know if drivers are required to comply with the instructions of a revenue inspector? Not sure if it's written down somewhere. Do you mean Revenue Protection Inspector or Revenue Control Inspector? An RPI can instruct a bus driver, yes. I doubt an RCI could instruct a T/Op...?

The Stansted Express runs every fifteen minutes out of Liv. St same as it’s Heathrow and Gatwick counterpart. Indeed, however the Heathrow & Gatwick express' aren't used for commuters aswell, (Stansted's call at Harlow Town or Bishops Stortford, sometimes Stansted MountFitchet, excluding Tottenham as it's an LUL connection). The other thing is that it takes 45 mins LST-SSD where the HeX and GatEx take 20 mins.

I think the bus RPIs are employed by the individual bus operators (Arriva, First, National Express, etc) so would TfL want to take on the extra staff at this time? Same with London Overground’s people, pretty sure not directly TfL employees. They are certainly employed directly by TfL, under the CSEP directorate - as such I'm in the middle of applying internally through source.

Unless National Express were intending to run more than the one train every half hour they currently do I doubt if it would be worth it. As aslefshrugged points out, there is a very limited service on this line. It only receives two trains an hour in the peak, and only one an hour off-peak. Seeing as the latest timetable consultation appears to favour a reduction in local services on the Lea Valley Main because of the high-and-mighty/all important Stansted "Express" services, I doubt they'll be adding any new stopping services any time soon.

London Buses "Revenue Protection Inspectors" to have the ability to report drivers, yes, and they do. RPI is a non-safety critical job so I doubt they'll be checking on the Underground any time soon, however IIRC the contract does state that they can check on any "mode", (but obviously if they don't have the duties for it then they wont)!
London Underground "Revenue Control Inspectors" I rarely see checking tickets anyway. Most of the time they're being used as Supervisors or towards minimum numbers in my experience.

I still believe all the fuss over the refunds is nothing more than a PR exercise - seeing as you're entitled to a refund if you're delayed by more than 15 minutes anyway, you don't need TfL to say they'll refund people. I believe it was just said to calm those people down who were shouting about the Jubilee failing again.

The dispute is regarding a dismissed train operator, so I'd assume it's mainly drivers striking, although others may join in. I'm not familiar with this dispute, but Imagine the following page will have any details you'd want. www.rmtlondoncalling.org.uk/bakerloobranch

I know it's pretty late in the day, but TfL's website is showing Severe on the Vic due to adverse weather. Any idea why? I'd have thought if the problem was getting trains into the depot then the service would be suspended as trains couldn't get through to Seven Sisters?

It is my and a few of my colleagues personal opinions that it had been left in such a state on purpose to quietly suggest that they were due replacing, by making them look run-down. Although physical appearance gives an illusion it isn't always correct, ala D stock refurb.

I suppose it is possible that the DLR machines are like the newer versions of NR machines?
As in, rather than having ticket rolls, they are pre-cut and stacked into the printer itself. It's possible that, if the machines are like this, the person re-filling the tickets thought he'd dropped one and slotted it into the stack without checking the face.. that'd explain how it got in there, and how it'd be possible to use the same ticket twice..?

Three Station rule would require at least on member of staff on one of the unstaffed station. Debatable if they would need to have S/S licence Does that apply to the non-Section 12 stations too?? On the Edgware branch on the first strike for the majority of the day, (haven't heard about the 2nd yet): Edgware - Covered by GG DMT Burnt Oak - Unstaffed Colindale - Unstaffed Hendon Central - Unstaffed Brent Cross - Unstaffed Golders Green - DMT Hampstead - DSM + CSA Belsize Park - DSM + CSA (although was closed a fair few times, and when open had no lifts in service).
