Hmmmm. Not sure the NSE signage fits in; temporary signs, surely? Made up by the NSE Society for the Diesel Gala and being auctioned off. Remember EOR has a Class 205 in NSE livery.

Also, it is a fair trek from the Central platforms at LS to the mainline concourse.

LT tried to run down Epping-Ongar after Norman Fowler turned down closure in 1980 (but allowed Blake Hall to go). Removal of the loop at N Weald meant one engine in steam (so to speak) and the max frequency 40 mins; service reduced to peaks only. Epping Forest DC financed an off-peak service but although that was moderately successful, they couldn't continue the spend. They protected the line's alignment in their Local Plan, but unfortunately not the extensive yard at Ongar. Whilst a decent bus service to Ongar was maintained by reputable operators, local commuters could cope, but in recent years various fly by night operators have had a go Much of the yard was subsequently turned into housing by the company that bought the line after closure promising to run regular trains on it and failing to do so.

The term "depot" has a couple of meanings. It can simplistically either be for the overnight 'parking' of trains when not in service or the repair and maintenance of trains. Ilford has had a dual role for many years (since 1500v DC OHLE) but seems from the signs going up at the Ley Street entrance to be more of a maintenance depot for Crossrail trains with Gidea Park (according to local press) being the 'stabling' depot. Ilford depot is apparently being moved gradually sideways to continue the accommodation of existing train services (TfL) while Crossrail sidings are installed until the whole depot morphs into Crossrail and residual TfL servicing and maintenance goes to Gidea Park (or 'overnight' at Stratford). Gidea Park is a load of sidings and very little else. News to me if it's becoming a maintenance depot.

Is anyone here finding the Central line very bumpy in its ride quality, especially out towards Epping. It's making it hard to read my book...

Unless there's a plan for a heritage unit, which I don't think there is, a train representing the D Stock in its last days would be the most appropriate to my way of thinking. We already have one done by Vivarail...

Why are these ones different to all the others on the network? They look like something out of the 1990s.

Most Charing Cross trains will call, but only three platforms of the four will be available until 2017, so counterpeak services will not call at London Bridge until then. Counterpeak? Is that off peak?

Meanwhile plenty of pretty lightly used stations across Britain still maintain a booking office service, yet at present LU deems it uneconomic to provide such a service even at the busiest locations. Funny old world at times. In the MerseyTravel area every station has a member of staff present from first to last train. The Booking Clerk at my nearest station doubled his weekly sales when I bought my All Line Rover the other year! Emerson Park on the Overground has someone present nearly all the time, but I don't think he has anywhere to go on a cold or rainy day. Also, but it must be quite boring at times.

I always try to get a transverse seat when I'm on a S8. I hate all longitudinal seating, because you can't get a decent view out of the window.

This possible renaming of the Heathrow stations is interesting. Does anyone know how likely this is to happen, and if so, when it might be scheduled for? It has already begun; now T1 has closed, the station has become Heathrow Terminals 2 & 3. T1 and T3 are due to be demolished and replaced by a larger T2; which I suspect may be called by its other name The Queen's Terminal. Heathrow Queen's Terminal is a good name for the station, but that's by no means official.

My mate used to call the Romford to Upminster Line the pushmepullyou line after the two-headed llama in Dr Dolittle. I know it as the 'push pull' myself.

This is a major breakthrough for Stadler both in terms of the UK market and the urban transit sector in particular. I doubt that they will be built in the UK because Stadler has no existing works here and the order wouldn't justify opening a manufacturing base just for 17 sets. Might be built in Switzerland (unlikely) or one of Stadler's other bases such as Poland or Hungary. Interesting. They also have a big order from Abellio Greater Anglia for their FLIRT EMUs as well.

Has there been any discernible increase in usage since it became part of the Overground? From personal observation, I would say so, but there has been a ten-fold increase in passengers using Emerson Park (which still has NSE tiling on the platform) since 1995. I don't think the 2015-16 figures have been released. Also, the line now has a Sunday service, which was introduced late last year.

Yes, I believe that's correct. AGA only calls at Romford off peaks.

Thought this little line warrants its own thread. It gets some odd stock out there; I've seen 317/7s on there with first class seating and the left over Stansted Express refreshment points!
You may also be interested to know it was one of the few lines in London that was listed in the Beeching Report as a proposed full closure.

I've seen people referring to your "Main Loop" as the "Outer Circle Line", which I agree makes sense. Ah, yes, that was it: 'Outer Circle'. I thought the name I recollected included 'outer' but I could not see any other loop on LO! I hadn't realised that LO included so much that is left off the tube map, until I dug further to find this Romford line (which, of course, means that Romford push-pull now makes perfect sense). I can see that there can easily be problems when people who's mental image of LO comes from the more complete map talk to those who's mental image comes from the Tube diagram. I live in Havering and have used that line many times; I know it as the 'push pull'.

I'm going to make a couple of remarks here: * I wonder how much all that stuff at Waterloo cost and who paid for it, because at time of writing Sony look like making a substantial (not the $70m initially reported, but almost certainly at least eight figures) loss on that film due to very poor overseas sales, a high budget and not showing in China. * NYC signage looks nice, I just really wish there was more of it at a higher level; i.e. a sign above the entrance.

I can remember that the semi-fasts did use to stop at Ilford, but that ended years ago. There are currently two AGA trains per hour each way (one to/from Southend Victoria, the other to/from Colchester Town) that stop at Romford - I frequently get them if the timings are correct.

*All the D stock vehicles, aside those required for the new RAT, have been sold for scrap, or to Vivarail for the D-train project (which has gone silent) A batch of them also ended up having a load of rubble chucked on them for that recent big emergency exercise.
