Over on the RMweb (Railway Modellers, not Routemasters) a chap has developed and is now producing a 3D printed Q23 car. It's available in 3 versions, double ended for the south Acton shuttle, single-ended as a west end driving car and I believe as original F stock. He's also going Q25, Q36 and Q38 trailer car, so it will be possible to create a typical mixed rake 4-car set. Cost is about £115 per car, not sure if that includes VAT and postage. You'll need a Black Beetle or other motor bogie to make it work, plus 12mm spoked wheels for the trailing bogie. Meanwhile I'll bin my resin cast kit which was too short at one end! Rather than binning the resin kit I’m sure I could rehouse it. Northfields

Following on from my earlier thread where I converted a corgi train into a N gauge model. districtdavesforum.co.uk/thread/27944/corgi-gauge-1996-stock link This layout was slowly added to and modified to represent a N Gauge Underground Layout. The small 3 by 2 portable layout was part built but I did rebrand shops, add street furniture and add Lineside cabling(scratch built) along with a signal. The tracks were also modified to add 3rd and 4th rails made from code 40 rail and fine scale N gauge track components. The layout had its exhibition debut at my local show last weekend and was well received (with a few ex Londoners identifying to stock running too). Trains consist of the previously mentioned corgi train alongside Kits from N-Train with Electra Vinyl sides and Parkwood models resin kits both running on tomytec chassis. There is also some steam on the met stock with 4TC made from modified farish MK1’s with vinyl sides. This small video hopefully show off the layout and stock but if anyone has any questions feel free to ask.

Does anyone know of anywhere that would make a replica roundel which you can choose the name on it? I am not concerned with whether it’s wooden, plastic or metal but ideally not expensive. I know you can get British Railways style ones but due to TFL lisencing I assume only certain places would be allowed to make them. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

After the olympics when Hornby sold off their merchandise cheap I bought a bundle of 6 Corgi die cast 1996 stock trains. Being a pretty close match to N Gauge the idea was to make a 6 car train and after a long while I finished it recently. I striped the pint off the bodies and disassembled before fitting it with kato shorty bogies and a tomytec chassis and hand painted livery with custom transfers. Not a perfect model but captures the look of the train well enough.

I think someone on has already modeled the A class on shapeways based on the keyser kit with some refinements. If you search for metropolitan in shapeways you should find it though I imagine some fettling and improvements could be made.

Okay time for another project for me to show. Following with the success with the prairie I decided to have a go at some more lining. For my next project I was going to repaint a Bachmann Junior saddle tank as the Metropolitan Pecket Saddle tank but in London transport livery. The Bachmann Junior loco had the correct look and I only carried out minor alterations such as modifying the dome and removing the cab windows and adding a whilstle. This was never going to be a perfect model as the wheels look too big and funnel isnt quite right not to mention the bunker and cab but if I wanted a completely accurate model I would by the Mercian Kit for it at a much higher price. Its more a exercise in lining than a accurate model. Anyway here is my effort. The lining was more complicated with the tank lining and the footplate and front tanks, the last two were done with single lining and then blended in to the edge with black paint for the front, I cut the straight line into small pieces and did a angled curve as there wasn't any curved options on my transfer sheet. I am happy with it and its running is usual Bachmann which is very good and it will serve as a occasional runner alongside Bachmann London Transport pannier.

Having spent some time away from this project I have now returned to it as I hope to have something produced by the acton depot show later this year. I have almost finished work on the van body but require some help. The diagram shows me the locations of roof vents only not what type they are and I can't tell from the photos either. If anyone knows what they are and where I can get castings of them as I will probably just make holes on the roof and add parts after it has been printed, like I did with the BTH loco's buffers.

The cab roof and most of the black parts of the loco were left as the original plastic and I have done that with the door area as I am not sure if it is actually a moulded door or just covering over the motor which is in the cab area, I have left it black so that from a distance they look dark and like a dark cab interior. Also I have omitted the single yellow lining on the bunker as I didn't have suitable transfers though I did include the number on the bunker but not on bufferbeams.

I thought I would start this thread to show the various models of LT stock and locos I have made and future projects as they happen. With last year being the 150th anniversary the fictional repaint of a prairie tank loco into LT maroon. Bachmann did release a model of it but since it was at a premium I wasn't considering getting it. At a car boot sale I happened across a Lima Prairie for under a tenner and thought I could get it and repaint it. My efforts may not be as good as Bachmanns but at 10% of the cost their one it was a compromise I could live with happily. Once I had got it home and cleaned it up and got it running I looked at the prototype. Strangely Bachmann model has lining on the footplate sides and cylinders which the real one does not seem to have so that less work for me. I needed to repaint it into maroon and line and number the sides. I had done repaints before but no attempts at lining a loco(I preferred plain liveries in the past). I had some LT Transfers left from the BTH Bo-Bo project and so I had everything I needed to have a crack at decorating the prairie. This is the result of my efforts. I am overall very pleased with the loco for a first attempt at a lined loco and it will run as a novelty on my layout doing steam on the met events.

As all the parts I have left over there is little more for me to say however anyone who purchased this kit I encourage you to post progress as it will be good to hear what others have done with the kit. I also hope you will take an interest in future 3D printed London Underground projects, the next of which is a Met 14 ton ballast brake.

Final proper update from me now. The display model is finally finished and the person who I asked has done an amazing job on it. Here are some photos but I imagine my photography lets the model down slightly. Anyway here they are. i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m595/SouthernValleyRail/DSCF2577800x352_zpsc4e98fa9.jpgThis goes to show what can be done with this kit and is a level of finish for me to aspire to. You may see one of these photos on the Radley Models website in the next week or so and the model will be sent off to be displayed at the Radley Models stand. If anyone is interested I still have a couple of sets of parts for the kit which I am looking to sell at a discounted rate, Message me if you are interested. If anyone builds their own version of this loco then feel free to post them on this topic.

Hopefully this will be one of the last updates I will do on this thread. I have finished my model and so I know that the kit is do-able. For mine I have done mine in a unlined Metropolitan livery which I have seen a BTH loco in though I have used modelers license for the handrails and a simplified livery but that is just my personal preference. There are a few areas I may touch up on my model but I am overall satisfied with finish I have achieved. My modeling skills are not as good as many people so I have no doubt that others of you can do a much better job on the kit if you get one. I have tested it running and have a video of it running . The kit should go on sale on radley models late November as I am currently waiting for the display model to be finished and then sent to phil, but when its done I will upload photos of it as it will be nicer than my effort. I have a few of the first run of castings for the kit which I will not be needing. They are just the resin parts so transfers and motors are required but as they are just parts I would offer them for a lower price. If you are interested in getting one please message me. Anyway hopefully this project is now starting to reach a conclusion.

I have now started painting my own kit for the BTH loco and this shows how it is currently looking. I confess my real world modeling skills are not as good as my computer modeling skills but if I can make this look half decent then hopefully its not too hard as kits go. I have also created a seperate thread for the 14Ton Ballast Brake I for my next project. linkAs always I will report more progress to you when there is any.

Following on from my Met BTH loco I am now working on a next 3D printing project. On the suggestion of Phil Radley I have been working on my next model of a Met 14Ton Ballast Brake. I am working from the drawing and photo which is of B553 in the "Metropolitan Railway Rolling stock" book by James R Snowdon. Unlike my previous model these vans had a much longer lifespan so lasted well into London Transport and received that livery too. I have learnt from my experience with the BTH loco and been able to scan the drawing and put it into the computer for me to trace and work from to a greater level of accuracy. I have also figured out how to do added detail such as gaps between planks and rivets. There wasn't a suitable chassis around RTR so I thought I would try to design one omitting the axleboxes and springs which I will buy molded parts for like with buffers. This is how it is currently going, I have more or less finished the body but am debating whether to add moulded on handrails and the chassis is currently drawn on and will need depth added.

Hopefully this will progress in the coming weeks as I work on it.

Yes this could be numbered be either B553 or B554 in London Transport days. I am working from the drawing and photo which is of B553 in the "Metropolitan Railway Rolling stock" book by James R Snowdon. And I imagine there are more photographs of them in LT livery.

I have now recieved shoebeams and so have been able to put them on the bogie to see how it looks. Here is a quick photo of how looks. I also took it to my club test track and despite the heat it was still able to haul 4 coaches. I took a quick video on my phone to show its running. Hopefully get it tidied up and decorated soon as well as handrails etc. OliverSR

Got a parcel from Phil Radley the other day containing the first few moldings of the kit. This is what the kit looked like when I opened it and looked at the parts. The Body, chassis, motor frame and the non-motorized bogie all looked good and the model has been finely replicated in resin. I cleaned off some of the flash and put all the parts together. The holes needed some filing open to get a free rotating bogie. I have dry assembled the parts to test it and it all works well. I will give the loco a test at my local club. I am pleased with how things are shaping up though I do still need shoebeams for the non-motorized bogie which is on order. I hope this is of interest to people and those of you who have this kit on order(If anyone) can see how it is looking. I will get this one made to test the running and make up a decorated non-motorized one for the Radley Models stand at shows. OliverSR

The parcel arrived today and first impressions are very good. I will need to clean it up and then fit buffers and other parts. For the moment here is a quick photo taken on my phone just to give you an idea of how it looks at the moment. PhotoAlso I have news if you would like your own model. The 3D printed prototype will be used to take moldings from for the production of a resin kit which will be sold by Radley Models. This should make it easier for anyone else who wants their own model not to mention much cheaper than getting it printed every time. The loco will be brought along to the Acton Depot on the Sunday where which it will be handed over to Phil Radley.

Metman- I have use measurements from the radley models chassis to design mine to make it in the same style. I have hence used the same size holes for mounting bogies so they should be compatible, I don't think my previous post was as clear as it could be on that.
