I had the pleasure of travelling on the Bakerloo tonight and ending up in the UNDM. I always stand against the R door and can pop my head out into the 'fresh' air. I noticed that the UNDM has a single headlight on the right hand side. How long has this been there? Was it retro-fitted or provided from new? When was the whistle added too? Cheers

I don't know 72ts, but an UNDM can be driven from the outer end of the unit when it's unit is uncoupled; so a whistle and white light make perfect sense - as would a red light and window wiper.
EDIT: it should also be noted that putting your head between cars is dangerous - the stickers attached to the doors are there for a reason!!

I was lead to believe the 72 UNDM had a small white and red tail light at solebar level like the 49 and 73 stocks.

Surely the sticker refers to using the door whilst the train is moving, not the window?

Isn't that being a bit pedantic? Anyway: 72TS UNDMs don't have wipers, as 67/72TS don't have windows in the ends of the cars. Well I did say I didn't know 72ts that well ;D ;D ;D

The tube did do a feature a long while back on why that area is dangerous, and sticking your head out of the window was such a dangerous activity. It rather unfairly showed a watermelon being crushed between the car ends of a C stock. Personally if the window is open on the next car I wouldn't have thought that it would present a danger to stick your head out a few inches because they'ld be nothing to come into contact with it.
However the downside is sneezing soot...

Whoa! I didn't want to start a debate on whether, sticking one's head out of a com door is danagerous or not. Colin is quite right to highlight the risks, it is part of his duty of care!
What I want to know, is about the end treatments of the UNDM. I didn't know there was a single headlight on the off side of the cars, and wanted to know if its was put there from the start.

Maybe something to do with the positioning of the wiring for the guard's panel?

Pass, but I do like the fact your first photo has captured the DM with a 'Bakerloo Brown' front!
