Hi all - In browsing the 6 month advance track closure PDF, i see that the Bakleroo is suspended at the end of August from Paddington - Elephant and Castle. The very odd thing is that it is suspended from THURSDAY to Sunday. This is very odd. What's going on?

Is this FINALLY the re-instatement of the Piccadilly Circus crossover?

Sorry - It's the Thursday the 27th to Sunday the 30th. Bank Holiday is the following Monday the 31st but the line is OPEN for that. It's just closed for two working days.

I would have care in taking that published list exactly- as this very weekend the District is only supposed to be suspended Embankment-Whitechapel but is actually Earl's Court-Whitechapel !

The Bakerloo line passes close to the Notting Hill carnival area and probably picks up a fair proportion of those attending that event, so it's probably with that in mind that the service is re-instated for the Bank Holiday in mind. After the Christmas and New Year period, the summer is the next best period for weekday closures as there's no school traffic, and commuting is reduced slightly by those taking family holidays.

The carnival isn't all weekend - it's on Sunday and Monday. Sunday is notionally 'family day', whilst Monday is the main day - however the Sunday has been increasingly popular over recent years with non-family folk who are perhaps looking to get to the carnival on a slightly less hectic day.

Is this FINALLY the re-instatement of the Piccadilly Circus crossover? No. As hinted by astock5000 it is probably related to Piccadilly Circus, but as the points haven't been plain lined yet I would be surprised if this closure is for their reinstatement. I have seen some track designs for the crossover, but haven't heard of any dates for doing the work.

Yes this closure is for the reinstatement of 7A points at Piccadilly Circus.
And yes, the line needs to be open for the Carnival on the Monday. Kensal Green gets a fair bit of Carnival related traffc, particularly on the Monday. There is quite a south east London to Carnival demand which the Bakerloo picks up as well, as special express bus routes (436X et al).

I can obviously recall the 'scissors' arrangement before it was replaced with SB-NB. Will the new #-over be signalled to allow NB-SB moves empty?

It already is. BP10 is the wrong road starter NB from the SB plat and BP4 controls the corresponding move NB-SB.

I can't see it being more than like for like (though better geometry if we are lucky) for a Th - Su block.

Just found out that the possession is for point replacement work at Piccadilly Circus and rail grinding work.

Having only seen the crossover in photos, I didn't tweak that 7A points were the crossover.

If you're interested, those points have been numbered as 7 since 3/9/39 - the missing crossover the other way was 6.

I'm standing on the platform at Kenton station now and I've been waiting 15 minutes for any kind of train. Given that the line is closed south of Paddington, and given that I'm paying the same amount of money, should I not be able to expect a much greater frequency than this? From a punter's point of view it's quite appalling.

Sounds quite normal for the Harrow - Queen's Park section The Bakerloo north of Stonebridge Park should be running its normal frequency (6 per hour off-peak), I think that on top of this Harrow - Paddington service there is also an every 10 min Paddington - Queens Park service, giving a train every 5 mins on that section.
