The lifts were added just over a year ago now, brand new lifts... So what a surprise they are now out of service for over a month with loads of blue hoarding around them, for 'essential maintenance.' I mean it really beggars belief.. Speaking of lifts, I hear after £millions spent so far and lots of work carried out, the lift project at Greenford has been shelved ... now £££s more are having to be spent converting it back to the state before they started the work ! Mind you I can understand why, they would have only been able to get to Stratford or Epping really useful!

Lots of work? Relocation of the Station Supervisor to Portacabins in the Car Park, one stairwell hoarded off and a handful of cable replacements doesn't mean lots. If they had actually started constructing something I might agree with you. Step-free access projects are ones which really do need some thinking and cost-benefit analysis before starting anything - one would have thought that those controlling the purse strings would have thought more carefully before proceeding, bearing in mind the Shepherd's Bush one got canned a couple of years ago for the same reasons.

They would have been much better off upgrading the up escalator and adding a down one.

Mind you I can understand why, they would have only been able to get to Stratford or Epping really useful! Or destinations on the FGW Greenford service (at least Paddington is accessible. Or Interchange at Mile End for District and Hammersmith services. Or Woodford, Debden Theydon Bois (that have level access to the street, though only from northbound platforms). There's probably more interchanges or one side exits available if you look at the accessibility leaflet.

Roding Valley is also marked as fully step free (although I admit this is not a prime destination!). Most of Stratford is (or soon will be) accessible step free, including NXEA and London Overground services.
