I'm guessing Hatton Cross for the main picture, inset 2 looks like Lincoln, before the resignalling?
No idea about the rest though.

Picture on the right is the Mount Washington mountain railway in New Hampshire, USA.
Looking at the foliage (in particular there appear to be two sugar maple trees turned red just behind the locomotive) I would say the photo was taken in Autumn. The first diesel on the line, taking over from the classic steam locos, was in service by Autumn 2008, but was painted green; the red one came in 2009, so I would guess the shot was taken just a few months ago, September to November 2009.

Wherever it is the main picture was taken early in the day as they still have some 'Metro's left!

Is Inset 5 Portmeirion?
Not sure if Inset 1 is Volk's Electric Railway.
Inset 2 is Lincoln.

Inset 6: the Squinty Bridge (Clyde Arc), Glasgow (and from the south side, in a snowstorm, if you want more detail!) Don't know about the extra detail, but Squinty Bridge was enough to scoop the point.

so I would guess the shot was taken just a few months ago, September to November 2009. You're right diana, the shot was taken Oct 1 2009. New Hampshire is an amazing place to visit especially that time of year with the mountains full of color.

Wherever it is the main picture was taken early in the day as they still have some 'Metro's left! Actually no! According to the exif it was taken at 17:29:53 on 13/2/2008. Inset 6: the Squinty Bridge (Clyde Arc), Glasgow (and from the south side, in a snowstorm, if you want more detail!) Don't know about the extra detail, but Squinty Bridge was enough to scoop the point. It was indeed taken from the south side, in a snowstorm at 10:29am on 29th January this year. By the time I'd got back to Argyll Street station from the Exhibition Centre station though it was glorious sunshine! It feels much longer than three weeks ago that I was there. inset 1 montmartre funicular paris? inset 4 hatfield house? Neither of those are right.

Yep, it's one of the cars on the Bridgnorth Cliff Railway. Photographed by me on New Years Eve 2004.
