Answer: Uxbridge - A stock with doors open and closed Quick question, what would cause this? Is it selective door operation, or a fault?

Answer: Uxbridge - A stock with doors open and closed Quick question, what would cause this? Is it selective door operation, or a fault? Isn't this what happens if you use outside closing stuff (no idea how these works on A stock, only seen them used on D78 ) as in driver only halfway finished closing the doors

Using the "outside closing stuff" (I think they're called "porter buttons", or that might be something else) on the leading car (the car with the doors closed in the picture is the leading car) only would produce this result. I think there is also the possibility to cut out the doors on one or more cars (e.g. for short platforms, cars out of service, etc).
I don't know the reason why in this case, but it wasn't a case of getting a quick picture while the driver was going along tipping out cars - the train departed, in service, a couple of minutes after I took the photo, and all the doors were opened (including on the first car) at the next station. My best guess is that the driver had a few minutes between trips and wanted a comfy seat and bit of peace and quiet away from the public. If this is the case then I certainly can't blame them! I'm not familiar with Uxbridge, but I'd guess that off peak there are not many people who specifically want the first carriage sufficiently to walk all the way to it, especialyl as there were plenty of spare seats (I think I was the only person in the second carriage)
