Whilst having a slide scanning session last night I came across this slide of Westminster I took 20 years ago. I thought it was Sloane Square at first - I had totally forgotten how much Westminster has changed. Have a look at this: www.flickr.com/photos/dh73/4913775705/

You could hear 'Big Ben' striking every 15mins so clearly on the platforms, as the sound from the tower went straight into the hole, bypassing the noisy traffic above.

Fantastic photo David - thank you, and happy days indeed. Showing my age rather, I recall the east end of the platforms being lengthened.
Until the rebuilding of the station for the Jubilee Line, there were some very old signs in the east end auxiliary entrance and on the footbridge over the tracks, which led out onto the Victoria Embankment - don't know whether they ever reached the Museum, but they should have!

Pretty much as I remember it, I last worked there doing some enabling works prior to it being knocked about for the JLE, somewhere I have a few shots taken on the platform, staircase etc in engineering hours, one of these days I really must find the time to post some pictures to Flickr but currently there aren't enough hours in the day to get around to it.

Exactly, I thought it was Sloane Square at first sight.

Railtech - please do hunt for your pics - would love to see them posted somewhere. My thanks, too, David.

Thanks for the positive response folks. To think that this slide had lain in the wrong box for the last 20 years!
I don't quite get the fact that it has not had around 570 views - normally my scans just about get into double figures.

Awesome.
When it was rebuilt for the JLE, was it all done in the same way Blackfriars is being done now?

When it was rebuilt for the JLE, was it all done in the same way Blackfriars is being done now? Apart from weekend track closures, the track was lowered through the area, the station remained relatively open. No long term closure a-la Blackfriars.

Excellent picture I remember it well before the modernization especially the Inspectors office on the west of the westbound where we could make our tea from the tea point. Oh and the wooden stairs and big banisters leading down from street level.
