Questions taken from original "sighting of signals" thread. 1, Why is it that all the signals between Upney and Becontree Eastbound clear together. 2, Why is there such a long gap between signals from Dagenham East to Elm Park Eastbound? It's a pain when your'e close to the train infront! Like Q8 in his reply to these questions, I suspected it may be related to differing stock performances. However my own (admittedly, scientifically limited) ;D experiments suggest the D stocks perform the same as their predecessor's. So what's it all about ?

Some time ago it was decided that there was a compromised overlap on the home signals to both these locations and, IIRC, for quite a while there were TSR's (Temporary Speed Restrictions) in both locations.
But, rather than install a new outer home signal, the overlaps where extended right back to what would normally be the intermediate signal.
And yes, you're quite right, they all clear together.
Mind, the one good thing about this is that it does give you some space between you and the train ahead, particularly if the preceeding driver's a bit of a 'foot dragger'!
