OneKEA, you are renowned for asking obscure questions, but this must be about the most obscure even you have ever asked

Perhaps he's seen one on eBay and wants to know the P+P cost?

No, seriously. aetearlscourt was talking about the shelf at Earls Court and the strengthening it needed to allow someone onto it, and it got me thinking about how much one of those signals must weigh. Homest!

They're bleedin heavy mate. I know 'cos it takes three men to lift one and I dropped it and it fell on my foot. Two weeks off that was.

Depends very much on the type. I've carried a Victoria Line type before now from London Road Depot to E&C station, and my arms were aching by the end. If it had been a cast Short Range head I doubt I would have been able to lift it that far.
Generally it isn't the weight of the signal though, more the weight of the maintainer. ;D

Oh ours was a surface signal head. Lenses hoods innards right down to the bolt plate at the bottom. I was nights as station supervisor and the ballast train crew had conveniently left it dunped on the platform and it was obstructing the stairs. So me the collector, booking clerk had to move it out of the way. During the process it slipped from my grasp. Straight on my foot! The only signal with a blue aspect.

Oh yes, the Long Range heads are err... bloody heavy. It was rumoured that before BB35 signal at Queen's Park was relocated you could look along the BR/LU boundary wall and see where the LRCL head was positioned as the wall bowed.
