I believe it is the "old insulation" smell, possibly combined with ozone from the electrical transformers.

theres no transformers in that room the power room is off the west end of the eastbound platform its usually just a musky smell of old wiring as theonekea states
the t/d room at monumnet smells like a fish tank so hold your noses if your near there and you see this room open

Some of the signal cabins shared the distinctive smell. Edgware Road was one I was familiar with. The relay room is right next to the operating floor with only a glassed wall separating you. The smell of old, very warm wiring. Even warmer in the summer.
Still, after a few minutes on shift, that smell could be replaced by that of quality tea, and maybe a few butter shortbreads lightly dusted with sugar ;D

That cabin has a lovely smell. I want to bottle it and have a sniff on special occasions. ;D At Earl's Court when we were at the old boooking on point, we could always tell when the IMR was open. That smell just wafted in. sniff - ahhh!

I agree, Edgware Road has a distinctive smell which evokes happy memories as a signalman (or in my case maybe just a lever puller!) there. I popped in there for a visit not so long back and thought how wonderful it smelt.

I love that warm electrical smell as well. The passageways down to Euston city branch platforms always have that smell. Euston Square has a warm smell, like a brickworks sort of smell.

Hmm, we must ask Lynk Deodourant if they can market it as an anti-perspirant! ;D Did nothing for me. For the majority of my time at Edgware Road I was single - and the girls could definately smell it on me as I rarely bathed ;D
