I've put this here but should it be under another thread I'm sure the admins will move it Can anyone tell me how this works. 1. The District I believe have this Wimbledon branch does the sig op put in details? 2. The Pic have this on the Heathrow branch is it the same as the District?

The Wimbledon branch one works by entering the train number either at Putney Bridge area or into an "end set", in the order of trains. This number then stays with the train until it come back to LUL. It is not always used, as it is not essential to operations.
The one on the Heathrow branch (from Boston Manor) is not being used all the time just yet and has been installed as part of the Terminal 5 works. It takes the number from the Programme machine number on Boston Manor S2. This can then be changed on the Train Following Computer, either by when each train arrives or listing them in the "end sets" as well as the Train Description. The Dot Matrix indicators currently blank will take data from this system.
The train number will then stay with the train on the TF screen and will also change on the programme machines. Trip edits can also be done using the computer.
The Train Following System will also be rolled out to the rest of the Piccadilly line desks, so that's every thing between Heathrow/S Harrow to Kings Cross. It is expected to take 12-18 months. The Programme Machines will also be replaced with the data being taken from the TF computers. District line trains will not be included, though this may be different for Hanger Lane and Acton Town areas.
This should hopefully go someway to improve things on the Piccadilly, as identification of trains can be troublesome at times!

Pass! All I know is that they are installing this system for free! Presumably they hope to improve the Journey Time Metric (JTM), which I'm sure it will.
Possibly, where it runs over the Metronet four track section it will just "follow" the train and not interact with the signalling system?
I note that the Wimbledon Train Following system is endorsed with Tube Lines Limited!

Metronet don't do freebies thats why well I better not say on an open forum, I remember the senior signalman had to type in via a keyboard train details and yes it's Tubelines equipment same as WARS.
