A very sad day indeed for those of us who have witnessed his work on his website, chatted to others using this forum and worked with him since he arrived at Acton Town.
A true gentleman whom you never saw angry and was so much looking forward to returning full-time to his colleagues after his recent health problems.
A light has certainly gone out over Acton Town today.
R.I.P. Dave, we/i will miss you.

Having had the pleasure of knowing him, and socialising in and out of work; he will be missed! My favourite part of the crisp cold long walk down to Ruislip depot from the train crew booking on point was when I'd stop to chat to Dave, often in the mornings de-icing his little Mazda MX5 on the other side of the fence outside his house. Just entertaining to shoot the breeze about life, the universe, everything and of course the job. Shall miss you old chum.

I am so sorry to hear the sad news today. I was lucky enough to have a few days driver training with Dave when I joined the District Line, it was so exciting finding out that he was THE District Dave !
A humble, witty, and all-round lovely man , he will be missed by all.

I would also like to add my condolences to Dave and his family. When you see a title thread called District Dave you go that isn't good.
The forum has lost its Father. He will be missed.
RIP Dave.

Very sad to hear this news, especially given the resource (and community) that he has helped build up in these forums and his website.
Condolences to his family.

RIP Dave, a Professional Railwayman. Thanks for inspiring people at a time when inspiration is in short supply, and thanks for making a difference.

It can only be a good thing that the forum bearing his name will continue to inspire and educate for many years to come. I'm really glad he set it up.
His positivity came across in his posts, like many though I wish I could have met him in person.
A tradgic loss to so many, and deepest condolences to the family.
Rest In Peace.

Well if there was one thing I wasn't expecting to read it was this.
Like many he's allowed me many hours of interesting viewing on here - the time and effort he must have put in to both his website and this forum should never be forgotten.
We may never have met, but the messages on these pages speak for themselves.
Rest In Peace

I first came across Dave when joining LU and found his website a mine of useful information. I am sure that there are more of us that have found Dave's knowledge invaluable with helping them start their careers.
I know Dave will be missed by his on-line friends and his work friends and my deepest sympathy to his family and loved ones.

Difficult to add to the lovely things which have been said about Dave here;
I feel truly fortunate to have known him and benefited from his unbiased advice and counsel.
He was a nice guy, an ordinary bloke who probably didn't realise just how far his reach went. He did the job and loved it, possibly more so than many of us and what a lot of people will not realise is that he did a lot of background, un-recognised work that made the life of a District Line Train Operator that little bit easier.
I am a District Line Train Operator and I will miss him and when I accept that stick at Hanger Junction I WILL say; "Oh, was I supposed to turn left there then Controller?"
My sincere and heartfelt condolences to his family.
Ian

Ive only recently joined this site, and came across it by random, looking for something. From what I can see, there are alot of dedicated members here who contribute alot to the forum which kind of makes it very much like a family atmosphere. Having never met Dave or know much about him, its hard for me to make comment of any depth. But I do however understand that many of you have been here for many years, and Im sure his passing is of a deep meaning for many of you. Im sure we wouldnt be here today had it not been for him and this forum, so lets take this forum forward and carry on his legacy

A very sad day indeed. I first met Dave back in 2005 at the first forum meet I had attended. It was a real pleasure to meet him and I'll never forget that day at the Met Bar in Baker Street. That meet and also the forum, in addition to his webpage gave me the kick I really needed to go for a job with LU, a company I'm immensely proud to work for. I was always grateful for Dave's words of encouragement and also answering literally hours of my questions! Meeting up with Dave out on the District was a real pleasure too and he was an excellent host at the last silver D stock trip, certainly a day to remember.
One of lifes really nice blokes.
RIP Dave, you'll be missed by many.

What can I say? Dave was the man I have to thank for persuading me to leave the Jubilee and move to a 'proper railway' (District).
I am very proud to have been able to call Dave a mate. He was a real gentleman and almost always cheerful. I remember the day he spoke to me and Steve (SolidBond) on MSN saying he was planning on creating a forum as a bolt-on to his website and would we interested in being administrators. Obviously we both said yes, but none of us (Dave especially) expected it to grow the way it has.
I will certainly be requesting a day or two off work to travel down for the funeral. I couldn't sleep if I didn't say goodbye properly.
RIP Dave.

As a long time member of DD 's forum it is sad news. Thoughts to friends and family. The dedications made in this thread show that people whether they've known him personally for years, or are new to this forum, have much to be thankful for.

I can only add to what others here have said - I met Dave on a number of occasions, and he was a thoroughly decent chap. He'll definitely be missed.

I've only been a member of this forum for a few months now and made relatively few posts, however I've been following this forum and reading the main site for many many years, given that I'm a bit a transport (especially LU!) buff.
I am so thankful that Dave founded this forum and for all the information and giggles that it's given me over the years.
Reading people's feelings and views about his passing, I am absolutely certain that he will be missed.
Thanks Dave for everything that you did and I hope that you rest in peace.

Very sad news indeed. I never got the chance to meet Dave, but simply by being associated with this place, it kind of makes it feel as though someone very close has been lost.
Deepest condolences to his family and friends.

I was deeply saddened to hear this news. I only met Dave at the forum meets, although professionally I must have signalled his train through the Aldgate area many times. My condolences to his family and all those who knew him far better than I.

The news of Dave's passing came as such a shock even though I knew he wasn't 100%. I was looking forward to seeing Dave back on the handle. My heartfelt condolences to all that knew Dave and especially to his his family.
Despite me no longer being solely District line, I know he will be sorely missed on the line, and indeed by anyone that knew him.
Professionally, he truly cared about what he did, and I know that his passing will leave a hole on the line that will be nigh on impossible to fill.
It was a pleasure knowing you.
RIP Dave.
