How long is 5000/01 still going to be working for or would that be preserved?

I am awaiting an update on this unit. A couple of months ago it was supposed to be "September" (2011) for its withdrawal. I would suggest that it was unlikely to be preserved or kept running to the last (which would be nice!) but as it was the first unit, I am told it is "different" from the rest (but not in appearance, of course). We wait and see.

Won't be that long the way S stock is being pushed into service. 1850 at Baker Street tonight 5 out of 7 trains seen were S stock.

Perhaps mid 2012. Work it out- one per week from now! Still a lot of A60/62 stock in service. Remember only 39 trains off peak.

definitely slow of the mark, but have they always been like this? i notice from videos that the 62ts which dates from the same era was alot quicker of the mark! perhaps the a stock could have been like this and they would probably be replaced even later! Since we know which 'A' End Unit will be forming T717 next Monday 10/10, both 5040 and 5042 should make it safely to 50 years in passenger service tomorrow 05/10. Unless there is any change overnight, 5040 has been coupled to 5163 and 5042 coupled to 5153.

Imo they are better than the S stock.
Like Chrisvandenkieboom said above, they may be old, but that doesnt make them unfit for service. A complete mechanical everhaul and interior refresh and deep clean will keep them going surely?

They are still in good nick, but need more an more maintence to keep them going. Parts are also becoming hard to find. Apart from that they are fine, and still provide a good service IMO.

Tomorrow, 05/12/2011 sees my favourate unit 5056 reach its half century. It is currently coupled to 5169. Will it be out on the line and if so do we know which diagram? I'd love to take a photo and have a ride. Cheers Metman, proud Met user.

Are they working tomorrow, or is it a case of wait and see? Could someone give her a quick wash? ;D

Happy Birthday to 5056-6056-6057-5057. I wonder what unit they entered service with this day 50 years ago. With both 5054 and 5058 scrapped it may be she will be on her own.

5056 entered service on 5/12/61, either (and most likely) with something else, or could have been on the Chesham shuttle - we will probably never know! Happy birthday 5056 ....

5028 didn't make it. It (5028-6028) was scrapped after the Kilburn collision in 1984. 5029-6029 now trade as part of unit 5232.

I'm sure I've seen a date of entry to service list somewhere on here. Anyone checked whether there are any units left that might just reach 51 years of service?

Perhaps car 5034 (ex 5008) might, but not sure about the rest. 5012 has an outside chance but it's unlikely.......
